Cross-functional collaboration and innovation involve reflection, transparency, alignment and teamwork. Some of the best teams and leaders I've had the pleasure of working with enjoy partnerships and clarity of goals. It is important that there is alignment on goal definition and how success is measured. How do we define success? Do we have transparency and/or working agreements in place? Are we optimizing our processes/workflows? How do we level set with stakeholders and support other leaders and teams? Are we organized around value? Do we celebrate successes and learn from what does not work? These are all important questions to ask ourselves as we reflect on our leadership journey and inspire others to reach their full potential.

When cross functional collaboration is missing (which is the case in may traditionally organised company), then clients often seem to have a better view on who's who in the company than the teammembers do. Before even setting a goal, I think we should foster informal internal conversation and knowledge sharing. In my experience, there is always a group of people longing for that. But it takes time. Unbillable time. Impossible to attribute to any project. Yet, in the end, the biggest innovations and improvements come from joining forces with like-minded people. If all are recruited in line with the company's mission, the biggest impact can be made with the colleagues you already have. By harnessing the skills you didn't know they had.
