Specialization in basically all areas knowledge is a process that is being accelerated by the fast development of new technologies, it is becoming harder and harder to stay updated. Learning should become a part of the consultant's daily agenda and keep active communication with other players of the given field of expertise.

Thriving in consulting is all about being wanted by the clients, and expertise is the best way to achieve this. y becoming an expert in some topics, you ensure that you will be staffed into projects, and therefore that you will be noticed as a consultant. However, keep in mind that the topics you choose will greatly influence this. Remember that consultants always need a broad scope of skills, and that projects are not always limited to one area of knowledge. So always work on 2 or 3 topics that you believe will be highly relevant 3-5 years into the future. For example, I spent considerable effort learning Blockchain, Machine Learning, and Data Governance; Blockchain lost a lot of the hype, but the other topics kept me relevant.

You should also be adept at data analysis and presentation, as these skills will help you convey your findings and recommendations clearly. Soft skill are no longer and industry knowledge are not enough to stay competitive in the consultancy market. Now it is necessary to learn and use AI applications than enable the consultant to find, manage and process large amounts of information. Many professional are coming into the consultancy market trying to substitute the capabilities for search an analyses of large and complex information of AI applications instead of real experience on the field.
Networking is a cornerstone of consulting. It's how you'll find new clients, learn from peers, and stay informed about industry changes. Attend industry conferences, join professional organizations, and connect with others in your field through social media platforms. Don't overlook the value of mentorship; finding an experienced consultant who can offer guidance and advice is incredibly beneficial for your career growth.

As well as learning, networking should be a daily task for consultants. Networks have to be built, curated, maintained and updated constantly. I don´t leave networking to chance of meeting someone of interest. I research the market to find people of my interest and the look for thee way to contact them establishing a business relationship with them.
As a consultant, your reputation is your currency. Establishing credibility takes time and involves consistently delivering quality work, maintaining professionalism, and contributing to your field. Write articles, speak at conferences, or conduct workshops. These activities not only showcase your expertise but also help you build trust with potential clients and your professional community.

As I mentioned in a previous comment, being a Consultant is all about your ability to be staffed into projects. If you focus on building credibility, you will always be included in client work either because the clients will ask for you, or because the partners at your firm will want you in their teams. The best way to build this credibility is by being consistently good at all tasks you undertake. Consistency reduces the risk clients and partners take by including you, and showcases that you have mastered your areas of expertise.
Effectively marketing yourself is crucial in the competitive world of consulting. Develop a personal brand that highlights your unique skills and experience. Create a professional website or portfolio that showcases your past projects and successes. Regularly update your LinkedIn profile with relevant articles and case studies that demonstrate your thought leadership in your area of expertise.

You may be the best consultant of the world in your given field of expertise, but it is usless if people doesn't knows about you. Nowadays there are plenty of online channels that makes easier to project your expertise and experience, let's use them.
The consulting industry is dynamic, with client needs and market conditions constantly evolving. To succeed, you must be adaptable and willing to learn new methodologies or pivot your approach as necessary. Keep an open mind and be prepared to step outside your comfort zone. Your ability to adjust to new challenges not only makes you more valuable to clients but also keeps your career exciting and fulfilling.
