How can you use APQP to manage global supply chains?

In my experience, think of APQP like a key guide for making awesome products. It's got five steps: plan and define, design the product, set up the process, check if everything works, and then learn and improve. APQP helps you make sure your product is what your customers want, find and fix problems early, and make sure everything is top-notch. APQP is a great approach for solving customer problems proactively. For the global supply chain the major problem is the cost of transportation to meet customer satisfaction. Today fast transportation is by road/air for which the price of diesel, driver and vehicle is much higher than railway which is way cheaper than other modes of transportation. With the help of APQP we can solve this problem.

In my opinion; APQP is a systematic quality approach to define the steps to achieve desired results of quality products as per requirement. It has 5 steps which define very much useful but we must follow the steps religiously. During the new product development process planning steps keep more strong with complete brain storming with the concerned team. Definitely results will automatically come.

Advanced Product Quality Planning is the basis of Quality Planning for a product and as Raimond has stated is a standardized process that was introduced in ISO TS 16949. In some business sectors like Med Device it was somewhat abbreviated to MPQP or Manufacturing Product Quality Planning. The core of the process is to first Map the manufacturing process step by step, then enter this information into a pFMEA to analyze the risks of the process steps then define the quality controls to mitigate the risks down to an acceptable level, the output being the Control plan for the product.

APQP provides a standardized approach to quality planning ensuring that the same quality standards are applied across different regions in a global supply chain; also APQP involves risk assessment at early stage of product development and foster a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement of the process.

Incorporating APQP is highly beneficial, particularly in industries under constant pressure to innovate and enhance products, even if you already have a robust quality management system and quality program in place.

One way that is needed is to stop treating APQP and PPAP as simply project management efforts and realize they are a critical part of knowledge engineering for Product Design (APQP) and Product Manufacturing (PPAP).

Simply uploading PPAP xls files somewhere will not get the results you want – some Automotive OEMs are already requiring a database tool to replace spreadsheets for that reason. The best way to deploy PPAP across the global supply chain is a shared single SaaS tool integrated with OEM/T1 systems. The goal needs to be better than XLS, but not as complicated as highly engineering software tools that work for product design, but does not work for product manufacturing.

Interesting in APQP is, first validate and then freeze design and it should not be vice versa. In order to develop products in a faster way, some basics are missed which lead to market failures later. Anyway to correct the product later costs more.

I wanted to add the need of digitisation of new product development process. AIAG has given the guidelines to implementing the APQP but to effectively implement the all phases of apqp is quite difficult using excel base /paper based systems. Now Organization needs to think to digitise the new product development process and reduce the NVA’s in follow up and communication process.

I'll ask my team at prior QMS internal audit to identify constraints, crisis, obstacles from priorly & recordables, those of their line of works, and what could be happened, if the impact of those identified are a happening risks to int & ext aspects. Then, feasibly, they should be wishfully encounter those identified problems with proven measure of actions capable of exceeding some productivity index. In audit, my tasks are integrating validated wishes, whichever it takes appropriateness, to achieve organization vision & mission. Role casting of Generous, Efficient, or To Hold and defining when to play each role. Sales trend, process time costs nor publicity trend are the trigger then.

Además de que el APQP sirve como una estandarización a nivel global, pero cada proceso debe de tener debe de tener algo único que lo identifique, así como También estar en constante entrenamiento hacia las personas que trabajen directa e indirectamente con este proceso de APQP para las mejoras y actualizaciones en el proceso.
