How do you become a geriatrician?

Medical degree to practice in the field. To start, you must first earn a bachelor's degree. From there, you can attend medical school. In medical school, you will need to complete residencies in both internal medicine and geriatrics. Geriatricians must also earn and maintain licenses to practice medicine with the elderly population and may acquire specialty certifications through continuing education programs.

One time at work,I had patient come to me for check blood sugar level concern about Diabetes. He heard neighbor told him he have diabetes at same age as him,it disturbed him for month,search in google for DM made him more worry. Today he made decision to see doctor. I asked him symptom, told him about symptom and sign about DM. He had no symptom. I reassured him for check blood sugar level after 8 hours NPO. I tell him at first Do not worry for tonight. Geriatrics is about deal with worry in elderly and prepare for screening program knowledge. Don't forget to calm down. Mind make you have healthy body.

Understanding the needs of the elderly requires purposefulness. They "Geriatrics" being at the other extreme of most vulnerable individuals in populations, one will definitely need decent training to acquire necessary skills set and licencing. Definitely a college diploma of cert should be minimum requirement

There are many important and necessary qualities you need to be a geriatrician. One is patience to carefully listen to their concerns. Many older patients feel like they are “not heard”. Listening to their concerns, showing empathy and addressing their concerns are some of the important attributes. Also, in elderly, sometimes less is more. Knowing that using medication for every problem they have may add to their long list of medications but may not improve their outcome, probably harm them. Being smart and using medication, sparingly in elderly, or in anyone for that matter is important.

Most important (outside of the educational and certification requirements) is to understand how communicate complex ideas in a simple way. Also do not underestimate the value in listening to patients when you ask a question.

Becoming a geriatrician is a formidable undertaking, accompanied by numerous challenges. The path to becoming a geriatrician involves extensive and rigorous education and training, demanding years of hard work and commitment to balance academic, clinical, personal, and financial responsibilities. Moreover, working with older adults can be emotionally and physically draining, as you will witness their suffering and decline, and confront difficult situations such as end-of-life care and ethical dilemmas. Additionally, resources, funding, recognition, and appreciation for this specialty may be limited or lacking. However, despite these obstacles, those who choose to pursue this career often discover that the rewards outweigh the challenges.

While I am not a geriatrician. I have taken care of many older patients in the field of pain management and many were grateful to have someone that took the time to listen to them and try their best to help them.
