How do you handle hostility from authorities?

As someone who’s worked in a federally illegal industry for 18 years, though not directly with regulators here’s my suggestions: 1. Do your research - what matters to the authorities? What are their fears? What are their goals? What is their voting record? Who do they receive funding from? 2. Having done the research, find common ground. If you can’t find any, you’re out of luck. Look inward and figure out if you’re the right person for this. It’s ok if your not. Be smart enough to recognize when it’s time to pass the mic 3. Continuously seek out common ground and meet them there. Consistently. Losing momentum will cost you 4. Put your money to work by investing it in your allies (Disagree if you want, this is America)

With hostile authority figures, recognize that it is due to their realization that your action a) lies outside of their authority, b) challenges their authority, or c) signals an end to their authority. In any case, realize that the person would not be hostile were it not for frustration at not being the pre-emptive decider. In the hostile moment, I listen for whether the person is hostile toward my actions, my position or toward me personally. If it is personal (it often is), my attitude is “Yes I have serious faults but I am not the issue here. What do you think about how (the topic itself) should be handled?” If the hostility aims at my actions or my opinion, I request a more effective action or a clearly justified different opinion.

When you are facing hostility from authorities, try the following steps: 1) Take it professionally, not personally. It will immediatly give you better grip at handling the situation. 2) Try to understand the source of the hostility. It will enable you for better response. 3) Don't react, response to it. If necessery take time out. Your mental health is above this petty fight. 4) Talk it out. Try to talk and solve if there's scope. 5) GIVE UP!! (This may sound crazy, I know! I know!) You should value your energy and time. Don't waste it fighting with senseless toxic people. If you are skilled, you will be able to earn. It's okay to give up some fights! You will be fine! I agree. Another good tactic is to always stick to the facts. Don’t bring any emotions into your discussions with the person and maintain your composure. Keep a journal log of your discussions with the fact that you presented each time and your perceived response. This can come in handy later, if you ever come across any issues.

In developing communities knowledge of rights and limits of authorities does not give the protection to those who work in general affairs , simply ,because laws and regulations are not applied properly, even they become a tool in those who govern . Taking photos or videos or any sort of documentation might considered a crime, it us not always allowed. From my own point of view, in developing communities, we need a kind of smart bundle of actions , plan of actions and long term plans to bring down to earth an effective role towards fighting such undesirable behavior. In dictatorship eras, normally you find a network with common interest consisted from government arthritis, police, intelegene bureue ...etc.

It's waste of energy and efforts which needs to be used in nation building, which is vital. What's happening at present is citizens are wasting energy and let taxpayers money used for unnecessary priorities. I believe, there's little or no influence of social media as electronic media has been bought by the politicians.

Building alliance really gives poŵęr , but we should be aware of the different opposing alliances at the other side, so we can go to other supporting alliance, like community activists social leaders, and relevant social groups, including all those who can have positive effect.

In Philadelphia, while conducting public demonstrations in public spaces, we always alerted the police about our location, date and time and asked for the unit responsible for such activities to be present. When they arrived I often introduced myself and asked for whom was in command at the site. They always gave us instructions about what we can and can not do, we always said yes but managed to incrementally, for example, move from a sidewalk picket line to one lane in the street, to two lanes and then close the street. We knew our first amendment rights to peaceful protest and that they had not authority to prohibit that. Of course, all depends in the situation.

There are clear atrocities and the taxpayers' money is used to fix them. Taxpayers are losers in both cases, in addition to personal victimization.

Patience is a virtue. You need patience to be calm when provoked by hostility from authorities. That you are submissive and respectful doesn't imply that you are weak. Patience , submission and respect is strength - These are important tools for addressing hostility.

Utilize strategic storytelling. Share personal narratives and stories that humanize the cause and highlight its importance. Remember before seeing the person as an authority, see him or her as a human, and as a human, the person has the capacity for empathy. This can help to bridge gaps in understanding and create empathy, even among those who may initially be hostile.

In many cases, the authority that comes face to face with you or your group is not the enemy. Exhibit empathy behaviors to diffuse potentially volatile situations. In the person (s) you are dealing with is (are) intransigent, ask for immediate supervisors and follow the chain of decision making.

I agree with it, though I believe, we're paying more than what's deserved. Colonial mindset must be removed. Risking lives won't make sense. Rather change through ballot box more useful.

Hostile authorities are usually organised in their ways of opposing those who seek to ensure that laws and constitutions of the land are upheld. This form of organisation needs a strong and coordinated strategy, for example by civil society. This strategy should be effective in the media and on the ground.This will aid in weakening the hostility.

I agree but it is not an easy situation to deal with. If the hostilities and obstacles to our goals, to the project we had set up become too pressing, preserving focus will be very difficult. There are definite strategies put in place by opponents, whether out of simple personal dislikes or opposing political views, that dangerously absorb so much of the energy of those who find themselves subjected to them. Those who turn out to be involved become tired and unmotivated. Often to defend one's convictions, ideas, projects, if one runs into an unfavorable context, or worse, of open hostility requires a real struggle sustained by uncommon willpower. And this characteristic is quite rare.

I agree with you for staying focused but is it really make sense? The guys are expected to provide services, not start confrontation. It's because the guy himself/herself is under stress due to broken systems. Systems need fix, not the guy!

There's clearly lack of confidence when two conflicting factors come together. The competition and cooperation are on loggerheads. On one hand, everyone is competing from "discrimination" or "show off", and on the other, everyone don't want to share secrets with others. The systems are all messed up.

Be smart and humble in your work. Don’t be afraid to ask for help or admit you don’t have all the answers. In fact, asking for help particularly as a leader can build trust and connection with your teams (teams include those you are accountable to and those you are accountable for). In such moments, much respect is given. End result - positive outcome.

First and foremost, it's essential to understand the source of the hostility. Is it a result of a genuine disagreement or misunderstanding, or is it a tactic to discourage or deter the cause? Once you have a clear understanding, you can tailor your response accordingly. Keep a cool head in this process!

Canada and provinces need more than two political parties, especially when both are incompetent to make any difference. Third party like NDP is also useless. Green Party isn't able to make any difference. At least, we need change of political leadership who can deliver, if not party.
