What do you do if your public speaking skills are enhanced by augmented reality?

I have found that embracing augmented reality gives us the ability to help make our speech 'pop' with creativity to better engage the listeners. Imagine telling a story and having it come to life before you with photos and videos. You can tell a story about turning into a cat and have augmented reality make you look like a cat. You can search for photos, of an elephant, and use your phone to superimpose elephant using augmented reality. Then, you can look around and see them in real scale. You can even use augmented reality to place furniture from a store inside your house. When you speak or use augmented reality, you demonstrate adaptability and innovation, showcasing a willingness to explore new ways of communication and learning.

Since the invention of amplification we've been augmenting reality as experienced by audiences. That goes back long before the invention of sound amplification. We use a rudimentary form of AR every time we speak on the telephone or meet over Zoom. It's more important than ever to stick to the basics - humans trying to convey information to other humans. Don't let the tech distract you. The challenges remain the same, no matter the context. Emotion, timing, words, cadence, tone, pitch, space, and duration are the elements of speaking. Do not gild the lily. The audience wants you and what's in your head and hear. Never forget that.

Augmented reality can make you stand out by creating a unique experience, which saves a lot of time. You can reach your desired outcome with very limited resources, and it makes the world of presenting and creating more equality for all.

Many of the best speakers learn best through speaking. I talk about my topic many times in various ways to whoever will listen before I get on stage. I usually try to have conversations prior to curtain time so that when the presentation starts, I already have momentum and flow. Starting cold is hard because energy is harder to control. The research, analysis, preparation, and presentation should be integrated and continuously flowing. If you're successful, you'll continue the conversation after the curtain falls, because members of the audience with want it to keep going.

This is a new medium. There is no playbook on how to do this right as of now. The important thing will be to just do anything, learn from it and then try it in a different way based on what you learned.

Attending conferences where AR is used or showcased is crucial. Also, consider implementing it gradually in your work or presentations so that it becomes natural to you to use it and you can also test the public reception of your use of AR.

I actually dislike this idea. I feel that my audience will find me more genuine, more credible, if I make the occasional mistake, if I am human. Artificially enhancing my PR skills with augmented reality seems to me to be a charade, a fakery that I would not want to indulge in.
