To make the migration automatic can be risky and may lead to the system downtime hence it is always preferred to keep it manually only with the prior information to customer base amd by doing this organisation can gain trust from their valueable customers instead of loosing. In case you want to automate it anyhow then use the best practices and choose the maintenance window when there is very lowest traffic and stand by SRE team during this maintenance window to take care of any surprises
