Although it can sometimes be tiring, it's very rewarding for your future career. I use a technique I call LEARN stands for: L- Listen - listen to your team and from the people around you. You may have some knowledge and education but see how it is implemented in the real world. E- Evaluate - Take note of some of the issues that have come up and evaluate how they were taken care of. Would you have handled it that way. If not what would you have done differently. A - Ask questions - During your 1-1's or contribute to a group discussion and ask the why behind decisions. R - Review - Each day and week review what you have learned and keep note of it. Your notes will be a good referral for you in the future. N - Nurture the relationships you are making with the employees around you.

I consider Internship to be a leadership responsibility & an opportunity to help, nurture and support the new generation, so irrespective of the department, internship should have the following in place to be meaningful & successful. *Show Purpose & define the scope - Enable them to see the value add/ Impact *Align with their goals, have tangible measures & Set them up for success * Train & help them, have a regular feedback mechanism * Facilitate networking internally & externally * Have a mentor/ buddy * Establish a firm connection with the intern - Stay connected post internship also.

Networking is crucial not only in HR but also in every profession and even more important in world of business. Be curious, capitalize on being new and young, ask good questions. You will be pleasantly surprised that people are willing to help and share experiences. Strengthen the network and build on it. Be helpful and useful so that people remember you.

While it might seem basic, mastering tools like Outlook, Excel, and Word can make a huge difference. Understanding all their features, especially macros, rule-setting, and mail merging, can make your work smarter and more efficient. In my experience across six organizations, only one truly mastered these capabilities. This proficiency sets you apart and makes you invaluable to any team. Examples: 1. One click to make 3000 employee files with its subfolders per your onboarding checklist 2. Send bulk unique email individually 3. Automate exporting/Sending reports with one click macros.. etc How i’v master it ? I have been managing HR operation over 1 year without ERP which lead me to utilize all the tools that I have.

It’s really helpful for interns to ground themselves in HR systems especially if they leverage what they are exposed to in school and transfer those engagements to the items they are exposed to in the workforce. For example how one does course selections, registering for school or specific programming using apps, or uploading assignments are similar actions to HR System activities like benefit selections, learning management systems, application portals, or performance management systems. Early on when applying for internships look at the systems the application portal is hosted on and YouTube videos from that provider to learn about all its features, you may be a spark that during your learning bring something new to your organization.

It’s a first job for most of us and we must embrace to take constructive feedback. Usually interns come out fresh from universities and colleges into the corporate and are not used to taking feedbacks or reflect back to their actions. But as new joinee who has the aspiration to grow and achieve must know how to accept the feedback given to them and take criticism in a positive stride and this would help one build their personal branding at workplace.

Can’t agree more. Embracing feedback and acting on feedbacks quickly certainly improves performance and positively influences the manager and peer view about you. It also shows that one is open minded, adaptable and progressive at work. It is important to recognize that getting constructive feedback is a channel of learning and self improvement.

Reflection 🪞 is so important to growth and taking the time to consider all possible actions. It allows us time to process and make informed choices. We must do this when we feel heightened to ensure we do not react in a way we may later regret.

Observation plays a pivotal role in helping HR interns overcome challenges. By keenly observing the organization and the HR team, interns can gain valuable insights. Learning from seniors, they can observe workflow, identify areas for skill development, and chart a path for their own growth. This proactive approach fosters a conducive learning environment, enabling interns to develop the necessary skills for their future career and overall personal and professional development.

First of all give them the proper guidance. Like educating interns on key HR processes and policies, and ensuring they understand the company's unique practices, and guiding interns on effective time management strategies to balance their workload and priorities adding on that we can offer regular feedback,coaching, and confidence-building exercises to help interns overcome self-doubt. Secondly, give them hands and this can be done by providing hands-on projects, job shadowing opportunities, and pairing interns with experienced mentors to build practical skills and Connecting interns with networking events and introducing them to key stakeholders to expand their professional network.

It is good to initiate weekly check-ins to update your progress on deliverables and to proactively seek inputs for consideration. Asking thoughtful questions during these check-ins can help you gain deeper understanding on the rationale and principles behind how things are done at the company. It also reflects a healthy curiosity that enables one to learn the ropes faster.

Have a buddy attached to the intern. It solves 75% of the issues an intern faces. It is also a great develop experience for people who act as buddies to elevate their role as a people leader.

The old and experienced staff should give a hearty welcome to the new interns because when the same professional staff arrived in the past, they were also welcomed by the existing experienced staff۔ After that, interns should proactively engage with their colleagues, seeking feedback to augment their professional acumen. A person can learn when he has the passion to learn and new interns should focus on learning because time never stops for anyone and those who do everything on time are successful.
