How can social work research remain transparent and accountable in public affairs?

La transparencia y responsabilidad en la investigación social son esenciales. Se requiere una apertura total en la recolección, análisis y presentación de datos, junto con prácticas éticas sólidas y una colaboración estrecha con las comunidades involucradas para garantizar la relevancia y credibilidad en los asuntos públicos.

La transparencia está vinculada de manera directa con la verdad y la integridad, con la práctica misma y con los mejores estándares de desempeño en cualquier investigación, en general con ser lo que somos y cómo hacemos en nuestro ejercicio personal y profesional, privado y público. Un ejecutivo de empresa o un ejecutivo de gobierno que no rinde cuentas, genera desconfianza, duda e incertidumbre y lo peor de todo opacidad. Siempre diga lo que tenga que decir, hágalo oportunamente y con el decoro correspondiente. Aún bajo riesgo de no caer bien a sus escuchas.

La transparencia y la rendición de cuentas son parte del trabajo social. Sin transparencia no se pueden construir hipótesis ni conclusiones reales, no se puede avanzar hacia soluciones de impacto. Igual sucede con la rendición de cuentas: esa devolución de los hallazgos, de la metodología y de las conclusiones hace parte del trabajo social y lo nutre activamente. Sin rendición de cuentas, los trabajos sociales son investigaciones que se quedan en un estante, sin utilidad alguna.

La voz de las audiencias en la construcción, recolección, análisis y difusión de la información es vital en un trabajo que genuinamente busque impactar un comportamiento, una situación o una realidad. Si la investigación no considera esa responsabilidad de escuchar y plasmar esas audiencias diversas, y encontrar los mecanismos idóneos para devolver las conclusiones o inclusive las preguntas resultantes del trabajo, no está cumpliendo con la esencia misma de una investigación social.
