How can virtual team members build trust with people they have never met?

Trust cannot be done blindly, and in the current era where people don't know the other person it becomes more sophisticated to trust. Now, trust comes by sharing ideas, communicating frequently with each other, showing empathy and giving respect, and being open to new ideas and working upon it,etc. Are some ways to build trust. And once this trust builds up, new business, ventures, etc. can be started with collaborative partnerships and strategic decision making by accessing all the potential gains and risks involved. It's always better to work in a team rather than doing individually as working in a team might bring new ideas and solutions.

Group chats, sharing personal stories, being a real person, sharing your victory's and your struggles, sharing advice and truly interacting on the chat. Also, meeting from time to time virtually, all cameras on and everyone sharing. The best team I was ever a part of was actually "virtual" I have yet to meet most of my previous coworkers, yet I learned so much from them.

Two things that are mandatory for me; 1 - Always choose the truth, even in tough situations. I usually say: I can guarantee the truth, but I can not guarantee that you will lie it. 2 - Communication it is about a Sender and a Receiver. The Sender he to adapt the communication to achieve the best interpretation for the Receiver.

As far as We accept as a society that we live in a virtualized era, and we update our mindset, then we can develop our social virtual skills as we do in presence. We need to: --> Connect with people through empathy, --> Include in our routine regular analysis of how well we are doing it with our main stakeholders, ask them and provide regular feedback, and --> Leverage any potential opportunity as we do with an elevator pitch.

Contributing virtually can be difficult. Social cues are harder to pick up on, and it’s often easier to hold your opinions rather than finding the space to interject them. In my experience, using the virtual meeting tools like “hand raising” or “ask a question” are very effective. They will politely notify the meeting participants that you’d like contribute to the topic being discussed.

Cada miembro del equipo debe tener un espacio que el resto respete y le oiga. Tanto gente junior como senior, especialmente en los comienzos la gente con menos experiencia o que acaben de comenzar en el equipo/proyecto. La distancia hace que en ocasiones los equipos se limiten solo a asistir a las reuniones, recabar información y trabajar. Es imprescindible que cada miembro del equipo participe de manera activa, puesto que los equipos trabajando en remoto carecen del contacto humano (que crea vínculos fuertes)

En mi experiencia tenemos controles documentados y reglas claras, se tienen horarios establecidos, actividades que se deben cumplir, todos reciben capacitación de inducción por lo que conocen la política, visión, misión, filosofía de trabajo y el estar certificados en un sistema de gestión de calidad ISO 9001:2015 facilita que al tener todo documentado, aunque no se conozcan personalmente trabajen bajo los mismos fundamentos. Hay retroalimentación constante.

1. Establish meetings with transparency about the project, the goals, the company and other relevant information that can be affect the team. 2. Organize in-person meetings to share things outside the project like hobbies, sports, etc. This action generates strength and connection for team building.

We can do team building virtual lunches where we don’t just talk about work but about other things like family and interest. We can also do daily standup calls to help resolve issues and to also breed familairity. In each country, try to appoint a lead (can also take turns) to rally the team together for special occasions so they can bond too, amongst themselves.

A high performing team is acting on a trustworthy relationship. To gain trust in virtual teams is a big and sometimes difficult endeavour. Just think about how difficult it can be when encountering someone personally. Therefore, a good practice is to use some ice breaker methods to start with when gathering new team members together. For example, I often use something like this: I choose a well known topic, could be a TV show or a book. Then, I ask all of the team members to tell the others which character they like most. Pretty quickly everyone is starting to have fun and learn something about the other team members.

I believe in causes and not in objectives. Give your team an objective, and they will get 50 yards per game. Give them a cause, and they will win the championship.
