I agree but it's also important to note that simulations are not perfect and should not be the sole basis for decision-making. Disregarding all the other ways a simulation can not work properly, and focusing on the fact that all input information has a big impact on a simulation result, one understands once again how important it is to always validate your results somehow.

What I find always helpful, is to construct your simulation in steps, and ensure that all the most basic cases work, before trying to simulate something more complex.

One good way to arrest this problem of having unintended consequences, is to attempt a mathematical model upfront before simulation building. Writing down the actual problem statement in the form of reasonably simple mathematical equations and attempting to solve them considering all possible solutions, would give us a perspective of possible consequences. For eg. Writing down a stock price simulation as a brownian motion equation or a population growth simulation as a exponential rate based equation. Looking at simulation based problem as mathematical modelling vs machine learning based problem as statistical modelling may help (though both can overlap)

Compare your simulation results with real-world data to ensure accuracy. This process, known as validation, is crucial for maintaining the reliability of your simulation.

Well said. Yet, there are cases where the validation is not possible. One good example is from the Cosmology, where we do not have too much info, nor enough time to validate our assumptions from simulations. In such cases, we can only leave the simulation as supporting a theory, and time will prove the simulation correct or not.

Regularly evaluate your simulation’s performance and make necessary adjustments. This includes checking the sensitivity of your results to changes in input parameters.

When developing a new algorithm for some purpose, you might need to simulate data in order to "see" information that usually is unseen, such as latent variables. In those simulations you'll need to evaluate the algorithm results, not only by "regular" metrics, but also with engineered metrics you created using the domain knowledge and domain experts. In that way, your evaluation, and therefore your algorithm, will help your estimations be closer to the truth, and your algorithm will be generalized better.
