Step back and review every step of the process. Where can you look to ne more helpful, add more value or offer a chance for the candidate to learn and engage more with your organisation? For example, what does the email that is automatically sent after a candidate applies look like? For more organisations it is dull, boring and adds little value to the candidate. For this email you should: a) Confirm receipt of their application and explain what will happen next (ideally committing to a timeframe). b) Remind them of the role, add a link if possible. c) Share some further links to interesting content about your company. If you have a careers site or relevant pages on your website or social media then share these.

Communicate and Be Human - this is a people industry and so long as you lead with empathy and a personal approach you'll provide a positive experience. Communicate timescales from the outset, if a candidate can't commit (because people have lives and responsibilities) and the client can't be flexible on that time scale then its not the right job/company for them. Keep talking to people and the right fit will come at the right time.

(e.g. Startup wants to make 3 hires in 4 weeks and has a 7 step interview process - can't happen) 3) remember you are the SME - YOU the recruiter have taken hundreds if not a thousand more screens than the hiring manager you're dealing with 4) don't be afraid to walk away (see bullet #2).
