5 years ago, I transitioned from software engineer to product manager and that's one of the best decisions I've made in my life. Those jobs differ a lot: - Product Manager focuses on the WHY of the product. While Software Engineer focuses on the HOW. - Product Manager talks to people a lot. While the Software Engineer talks to the computer more. Yet, there are still transferrable skills that I bring from one to another: - Ability to understand the tradeoff when discussing multiple solutions. - Ability to communicate with engineers effectively. - Ability to understand technical challenges when they are raised. I believe strongly in practise make perfect. There is always better ways to accomplish certain tasks we do. Continuous practice will lead to horning of such skill set which will lead to efficiency and optimization of the processes involve in such skill set. Also, training is very important. You must be on the look out for relevant training and courses. There are so many training platforms on the internet that can be advantageous. Collaboration with training and research institutions is also germaine. Research institutions will always support and provide theoretical backbone for your skill set. They will fine tune and professionalise and possibly make institutional documentation by archiving of such for posterity.

One thing I learnt over the years is that, inaddition to the academic and professional qualifications that we possess; soft and hard skills grants mileage of excellence for individuals that possess them.
