How do you get the most out of your digital content?

Often I find that you have to spell it out. Be overt with the central point of the content. You can't assume people will read the whole article to find the point.

The best way is to have human writers/ content creators. If the goal is to have humans truly connect and engage- then a human writer/creator should be the one creating the content. The content becomes that much better when the writer/creator is given the message/goal/purpose of/for the content.

1. Plan my content: Start by creating a content strategy that aligns with my goals and target audience. Determine the types of content I want to create, such as blog posts, videos, or infographics, and plan a content calendar to ensure a consistent flow of content. 2. Optimize for search engines: Conduct keyword research and incorporate relevant keywords into my content to improve its visibility in search engine results. Use meta tags, headings, and descriptive URLs to optimize your content for search engines. 3. Promote on social media: Share my content on social media platforms to increase its reach and engagement. Utilize relevant hashtags, compelling captions, and eye-catching visuals to attract attention and encourage sharing.

I repurpose it. I cut and paste it into other documents. Or rename it. Or I use the format in other emails, landing pages, or VSLs. Follow my posts and you'll see how I do it.

You can the greatest content in the world, but it's worthless unless people see it. Learning basic SEO skills and using them when creating and sharing your content goes so far in getting noticed. Also, sweat the form details. Yes, filling out forms can be tedious. However, putting in all of the information is what tells your audience that you are serious and worth listening to. I'm just a freelance writer/editor with some web skills. Through attention to detail and taking the time to fill in boring data and description that could be done by AI, I set myself apart. Remember the audience. It's important to optimize for SEO, accessibility, readability, etc. But it's also important to optimize for what your audience wants - why are they interested and why do they care? If you don't optimize for that then in the end you will lose the audience no matter how well you did on getting them to the content in the first place. In my mind there is a step missing in this outline - after step 1 and before step 2 should be create great content. This holds true whether you are creating a video, a tweet, an email, an ebook or a presentation. Or anything else.

In my digital publishing journey, content distribution is like launching a rocket - aim high, but target strategically! Once your content is polished, pick the perfect platforms to reach your audience. Podcasts thrive in directories and apps. Newsletters resonate with segmented email lists at the right time. The key is getting your content in front of the right eyes to maximize engagement and conversions.

This is boring work, but distribution in a very valuable skill. Make sure to create accounts on social media networks and fill in ALL of the information. Follow creators who do similar work with genuine interest and enthusiasm. Getting to know where you audience can be found is crucial to good content distribution. If you're audience would benefit from a regular newsletter, make sure they have that option. Don't expect your audience to meet you on your turf; become an actual member of their communities and engage in more than your own content sharing. This type of investment in your active audience will make them want to take an interest in you and your work, if it's suited for their community. Also, consider creating your own community.

Don't just analyze it. Engage with it. The people who take time to comment are interested in your content, whether they're feedback is positive or negative. Never be rude or pushy and acknowledge that their feedback helps you. If certain content isn't working, it's never the audience's fault. Their feedback is an opportunity to learn and you should thank them for it. Be prepared to learn from the mistakes that you didn't know were mistakes. If certain content isn't getting the attention you expected, try to figure out why. What do content creators with bigger audiences do that you don't? That's not rhetorical. They're doing something differently. Analyze your content to find out what and adjust. Flexibility is an art and a necessary one.

Don’t forget to ‘sweat your assets’. Given the high output expected from small content teams, repurpose your content as much as possible. Make a long video into 4 x short ones. Repurpose lengthy articles into snackable tips and content, or a downloadable pdf to send to your customers. Get creative on how you can leverage your content across the organisation.

What Amber said. Plus plan for this reuse ahead of time. Know your full suite of content types and make sure you find ways to create them from every interview or piece of research you do. And remember, people forget. Use it again. And again. Content is a long game.

Target your potential customers' questions - these are amazing topics to cover. There are plenty of ways to discover what they are searching for: keyword research, the people also ask part in the SERP, surveys, and platforms like Quora. This is the part most brands and creators miss to cover, so dive in deep and win your customers over.

If you're an independent/freelance content creator, always consider how your work can be used in multiple ways. Plenty of content can be sold while retaining the full copyright to your work. If you have that option, always be looking to create content that will serve multiple purposes. Create expert content for magazines and websites and have a personal website? Unless you're under a work-for-hire agreement, you probably only sold first serial rights. There are syndication companies that provide content to professional databases and libraries. Your content is archived, you get small royalties and your name and work are easy for your future audience to find.

Quality over quantity with content saves you time and improves your brand and following. Invest in storytelling to emotionally engage your audience to take action.
