What are the best courses to develop your leadership skills?

As a Leader, the most revered skill would always be Being Empathetic. Empathetic in thought, communication and actions. Though it's the toughest to master in any environment and culture. With KPI's sword always hanging over, Leaders do fall in the viscous trap of gunning for tangible gains and somehow ignores intangible gains of being empathetic. Secondly, no books, no articles, no courses, no nothing will assist you in becoming a Leader unless YOU want it, YOU think about it, YOU talk about about it and YOU act it practically. Being attached to the last employee in the hierarchy is the magic. Read as much as YOU can, but be kind, compassionate and empathetic is the turnaround. 14/2024

I think the key to realise is that leaders need a huge range of skills. So start with courses on leadership itself (learn about situational leadership, Tannenbaum & Schmidt, Maslow etc) but then add things like Time Management (a disorganised leader makes everyone else's life hell as well!), Negotiating, Project Management (everything is a project so as a leader you need to know how to divide things up, make a plan for who is doing what and when, and then motion progress, which is basically PM), learn about creativity and problem solving and decision making, and perhaps the number one leadership skill - delegating. Oh yes, also how to handle difficult people, including difficult bosses! LinkedIn Learning has all of this. You'll be fine!

In my experience, the best way to boost your leadership skills is through thought leadership and personal branding courses. They really help in shaping your unique leadership perspective. Also, working with a professional coach (like me) can make a huge difference. They'll work closely with you to craft and refine your personal brand, ensuring it truly reflects who you are and resonates in your field. It can be a game changer in how you present yourself professionally.

Leadership is skill which can be learned and get improved, there are several books to learn about leadership but the most importantly thing is to keep practicing leadership skills, its easy to learn in but more difficult to practice perfectly as it requires multiple personal abilities in order to be able to be a leader. One of the courses I found so powerful is leadership and management from Geis college of business, its an online course which you can get certificate as well once completed it... At the end practicing leadership is what will make difference in your career.

I think that courses are not very useful to develop your leadership competencies. The best way to learn is to practice soft or communication skills in real and concrete situations with à smalll group of diverse persons as for instance using Wial action learning method !

One thing I find helpful is to have a good mentor and show the way. However not all of us are likely enough to have a mentor, look out for one or learn from one that you think you like to be. Attending seminars or having good networks helps too, don't be shy ask and you will grow.
