If you want to Transition to Mechanical Engineering, you need to start with basic skills learning. Join few professional groups where mechanical engineering is discussed so you understand the requirements. Find a mentor, work (even free, for your education) with people who do mechanical engineering work to learn the skills! There is no short cut but this is do-able. I did same when I started transition to electrical engineering from my core strength of mechanical engineering.

Aspiration - ask why individual want to learn specific skill? and degree of aspiration generates the thrust of learnings!! Now specific in context of Mechanical Engineering - start with basics and stay focused on topic of your interest like Automotive-> Passenger car-> Electric vehicle. This will help to build momentum in learning!!

Assessment has to done based on the future needs of industry or people not present nor pas ones. So you must pay close attention to suggestions and select those that forecast future demands requirements.

Learn basic physics and maths. 2. ⁠Observe your daily use items in your home like pen, table chair , bed, fan, tv , fridge etc. And ask these questions yourself-Why these are needed, what are their primary functions, 3. ⁠what type of materials is used in it. 4. ⁠why some parts are made of plastic and some of metals and some composites 5. ⁠what will its working life and cost. 7. ⁠Do some ground level internships/unpaid workshops in fabrication shops, small manufacturing units ,MSMEs they are gold mine for learning. 11. ⁠most of people focus only on CAD design and call themselves Designers which is wrong , Both k knowledge of machining and CAD with Concept of engineering calculations will make you a better problem solver in that domain.

Additionally, there are lot of platforms to study online through MOOCs from international universities on some certificates and specializations. From these learnings we can develop new topics related to mechanical engineering and can watch videos in youtube to gain further knowledge.Then there are lot of student versions of 3D CAD to practice and learn design,developments and drawings.Many design competitions and projects are available in Grabcad or other sources like freelance.The 3D Cad is one way to develop.Other imp is the knowledge to be gained in a material science and related chemistry.For complex aerospace we need to develop our physics studies along with maths and engineering.Some imp are MathCad,Ansys, and Cfds for aerospace.

Mechanical Engineering is a broad category. It covers things as small as nano-particles and as large as 1200 Megawatt power plants. I recall taking the PE exam in Mechanical engineering, and seeing entire sections of problems dealing with cams, gears, pulleys, linkages, and mechanisms I never even studied in college. Fortunately, I saw other sections of the PE exam that dealt with thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics, which I studied quite a lot in college. SO. . . one needs to figure out what aspect of Mechanical Engineering one is genuinely interested in. Many of the courses for a college degree in Mechanical Engineering overlap with curricula for Nuclear, Petroleum, Chemical, Industrial, Civil, and Structural Engineering.

If you have knowledge and skills,Learn soft skills along with it like presentation, paper reading , and always be confident and consistent with your words and resume , learn to make impact full and simple presentations. Learn MS excel, AI tools , and basics of IoT(Internet of things) Without these soft skills all of your knowledge and experience will be in dust. Learn Maths, Mechanics , Statics , Material science , Manufacturing processes and technologies, CAD (atleast 2 softwares), Basic Load calculations and Simulations , Detailed design drawings. Always try to solve the problem using most optimum solutions which are feasible and economical. Make a habit of learning daily atleast 20-30 minutes without any distractions
