Found Wix the easiest to customize the design of the website and Shopify easiest to set-up an online store. My Learning: Periodical review of your website based on your customer feedback and breaking down the goals the business wants to achieve through the website, is a good way to optimize your resources.

Website builders are great for beginners. A very good strategy for small growing businesses/ startups with little to no money that need to move cheaply but have some form of online static website. Most businesses don't really need a fancy website but just one that show the essential information about their business eg. services offered / what products you sell opening times etc. Most website builders can build a very nice shop window that doesn't need complex integrations. Although i have seen some web builders that keep pushing the boundaries, so this post might not age well haha

It really depends on what you’re looking for and what the needs for your digital presence will be. My experience is that if you’re going to be making updates to product specifications, service descriptions and promotions, you’ll be better off if you hire somebody to help you develop your website and train you to make the updates yourself with the help of your team.

Website builders available online are an excellent technical solution especially for small & medium sized businesses. There is indeed a difference between Word Press, Shopify, Wix etc - however whatever between those is chosen it facilitates more or less the same end-result. One key thing preceeds the technical solution however and this is CONTENT (creative and strategy) - and this is what really would make the business stand out. So if technical tool allows DIY, content and visuals rather not - and those relate not only to the overall look & feel but to user experience when on-site. Hence, I would strongly encourage using a professional (agency, freelancers) there.

I love WordPress because it’s so easy to use, navigate and gain support! It’s a must for businesses that have multiple people at different levels with access needs. Additionally, the pre-made template packages available online are really nice these days.

For small business, the Wordpress framework is the easiest to use. It allows for brand architecture, SEO optimization and just an overall tested platform for design.

WordPress gives much flexibility for marketing managers who want to build a site with complex features that aren't standard in drag-and-drop website builders like Squarespace, Wix, and Webflow. With Wordpress, someone has written a plugin for a feature you want to integrate. This means you don't have to spend as much on custom development. The downside is that you miss out on seamless features like the easy-to-use HTML5 animation integration you can get from a site built with a modern builder like Webflow.

Wordpress is a powerful tool for small biz and personal brands, it's open source so there are no ongoing fees for the base software, and it's extremely customisable. Wordpress can be designed to look however you want, and can be extended to include almost any functionality a brand might need. However, be aware that it does require a certain amount of technical setup and will need ongoing maintenance. Most webhosts make it easy to install WordPress, but it's also easy to mess up things like mail sending, SSL, or site speed if you don't have technical know-how. There's an overhead to the setup and maintenance of WordPress that is often overlooked at the planning stage.

I'll start by saying that I just never personally liked the user interface for Wix. Plus, while Wix has some great features, I've seen SO many small businesses mess up their websites because of how confusing the user interface was. As a result, I largely avoided using it. So my input here is based on very little practical experience, however take it as a word of caution as you explore which website builder to use.

I like to think of Wordpress and Squarespace like PC and Mac. Squarespace is a great platform that looks beautiful and is easy to manage. This is due to having a closed, controlled, unified environment. The benefits are greater security, and fewer capability issues or page errors. I built countless websites over a decade using Wordpress and switched to Squarespace in 2015. Today, there’s almost nothing Squarespace cannot accommodate in terms of customization compared with Wordpress.

Wix is quite intuitive, and allows you to be up and running in no time. There are hundreds -if not thousands- of tools and plugins you can use, so you can go from the tiniest website to a robust well organized one. Me personally, having used both Wordpress and Wix, would choose the later in every case.

Squarespace is a great choice for small businesses and personal brands. The advantages are that you don't have the technical setup or ongoing maintenance of something like WordPress. The drawback is that you don't have the same design or features flexibility. However you can design a great looking website in Squarespace and I highly recommend it unless you have specific requirements outside of its capabilities. For example, Squarespace's e-commerce features are still quite basic, so if your main goal is e-commerce based you should look elsewhere - like Shopify. Templates and themes are great for a quick start, but to build your brand I recommend getting a designer to work up something a little more unique for you.

Which leaves the onus on the business owner or marketing team to create an experience that their target customer values and can lead the to the logical next step. Whether it’s booking a discovery call, getting a custom solution, or going direct to offer, how are copy and design aligned to achieve that goal result? That’s the only way you’ll ensure what you’re investing in getting traffic will actually lead to a desired level of conversion.

Shopify is pretty much the gold standard for any small business or personal brand that is e-commerce focussed. Builders like Wix or Squarespace don't have the advanced e-commerce feature set that Shopify has. WordPress can often be extended with the features you need, however it comes with a maintenance overhead that you avoid with Shopify. If you're building your brand and your primary goal is to sell products online, and you have ANY complexity to your requirements (think multi-currency, click-and-collect, or multiple physical outlets) then Shopify is a natural choice.

The most important task is to identify the need, the frequency of updates, audience you want to target and quality of output. There is no shortage of tools but without identifying the above, starting the work is like building a house without the right foundation. Some of the best tools available now that I can recommend are webflow and framer.

Website builders are -OK- if you have no other option for getting yourself set up. The best choice is to find someone who knows brand; knows online presence and have them help you present in the most impactful way possible.

I have experience creating the site from scratch on an open platform, while those were customizable - I would suggest buying v/s build. Once you've built your website, remember that brand building is an ongoing process.
