It's all about what makes your podcast different - what's your fresh angle? Everyone has a podcast now, and I have found that identifying your demographic early on is the most important part. Once you have your demographic in mind, you can create content that is tailored to their interests, build a community and effectively market FAR more easily. Additionally, as your podcast grows, you want to evolve, so by continuously monitoring and understanding your demographics, you'll remain relevant and fresh for the evolving needs of any audience.

To ensure your thought leadership podcast reaches its audience, start by defining your niche and target audience clearly. Focus on topics aligned with your expertise to attract listeners interested in your insights. Optimize your podcast for discoverability with compelling titles and descriptions, leveraging platforms like LinkedIn to promote it. We have to take into account the very short attention span of pretty much everyone these days. Before the Huberman Lab I would not listen to anything longer than 30 minutes unless it was mind blowing 💣 Definitely get feedback from your audience, work and feedback makes the success of any project.

Please be aware of the DiSC profile of your listeners and keep your format aligned with how they like to take in information. Then consistently show up and deliver on your BIG promise. Feel empowered to create a hybrid of styles you like, if it suits your audience's preferences.

In any form of sharing, it must be looked at from at least two aspects - content and delivery. In developing a podcast in this case, any good acoustic or sound system will not make much of a difference if your content is irrelevant, not appropriate or unrelated. With good relevant content, you are half way there. Now delivery. Delivery refers to delivery of the offer in how you promote it. Target audience and the relevant channel to reach them is key consideration. Next is the delivery of the content - story telling, audience involvement (they can response via email), etc Then comes production of the podcast. Clear, precise messages need clear sound system.

In my experience, paying close attention to the guests you interview is as critical as the actual interview. Be the gate-keeper of bringing on quality people who's perspectives, interiew, and take-aways add value to your listener. Remember that it's not about YOU...it's about them. I'd rather see you have fewer guests, than the wrong guests.

I believe for a podcast, audio quality always comes first. No point in having great video but terrible sound. Researching what microphone to use can give a great dividend. When it comes to hosting your podcast, it's important to choose the right platforms to distribute your episodes to reach your target listeners.

Keyword-rich titles and descriptions would boost the podcast's SEO. I would also search for similar podcasts' most popular phrases that can be used as keywords/tags. Social media, especially audience engagement and hashtags, can boost podcast exposure. SEO must be regularly revisited for optimization due to algorithmic changes affected by user preferences.

In my experience, you can plan for SEO but you don’t know what’s working until you’re 20+ episodes in to see what SEO is working for you. After launching my podcast, it became there were two words that, if they were included in the title, contributed to more downloads. As a result, I updated my content themes. One was already in there, but another became an established pillar, replacing another one that wasn’t working as effectively.

It's true that your network is your net worth - this applies to both business and life, and especially when it comes to podcasting. As I mentioned before, to sustain a long-term vision and plan for your podcast, you need to provide exceptional and valuable content. To do this, you should bring in other people who can provide different perspectives, experiences, insights, wisdom, knowledge, know-how, etc. This can be done by inviting other podcasters, influencers, and experts in your niche who can further the conversation on the topics that your ideal listener would like to hear. As the podcast host, you should also be engaged in these conversations and ensure that they align with your vision, values, and brand.

Grow your network first, start your podcast after. Build a sense of anticipation by sharing your plans with your community. Engage your network, asking about their interests, what would be a relevant discussion topic or desired guests.

Also, ensure that you've optimized your existing online profiles (ex: LinkedIn profile) so that a new person who just discovered you will instantly know that you have a podcast This is in addition to the basics, which are: - Having a compelling episode title that your target audience actually will want to listen to (You can track this via your number of downloads) - Making sure that the actual episode contains substance and incentivizes the listener to listen to most of the episode (You can track this via your listening duration stats)

We once recorded a podcast will the a live online audience during COVID. We kept them muted and took live questions for ourselves and our guests through the chat. Step outside of your comfort zone and take consistent action such as creating quality content and making meaningful comments that support others. Also reach out to see other podcasters are willing to interview or be interviewed.

It's important to get people involved in what we do. As creative people, it's hard to know how our work is being received by our listeners. We want to make sure we're asking for feedback and getting people to engage with what we're doing. It's also important to create a sense of community and belonging so our listeners feel like they're not alone. Social media, email newsletters, and events are great ways to build a community and get people talking and working together.

Be a guest on the top podcasts in your niche! You may ask 30 and may only appear on 5, but that’s ok, keep reaching new audiences to grow.

Consider why are you doing a podcast to start with. Do you have a need to tell something to the world or did you read that this is good for marketing? If it is the first, there is very little you need to think about because deep inside you already know what is your message, why is it important and who is it intended for. You also know why exactly you need to tell that message. If you are doing it to market your content or services, you are not a thought leader, you are a promoter trying to attract attention. The rules of the game there are clear.

For me, the smart move is to be on all platforms. Create — Insta reels, Twitter threads, TikTok teasers— and get your network excited. Do surveys, reply to questions in other people's comments, promote without being pushy, and create excitement on LinkedIn. Don't just hint at topics; share intriguing bits that make people eager for more.
