  • Is having your first child or being unexpectedly laid off more disruptive? Certainly a person's circumstances dictate which is more disruptive for them. But I think we can all agree, BOTH are incredibly disruptive. And neither talking openly about "losing yourself" to motherhood nor "losing yourself" when you lose your job are very easy conversations. We don't have the right words. We have been taught that having a child is a wonderful experience (and it certainly can be) and we have been taught to think that if we get laid off it must be because we weren't good enough (even though it is a financial decision). So what can we DO in these periods of intense disruption? Linda Rossetti, author of Dancing With Disruption, did 10 years of research on what happens to us when we have intense life changes that challenge our identity. Linda's lived through an implosion of her own identity and she was determined to figure out how to take that very common "disaster" and turn it into TRANSFORMATION. You have to hear her. As she says, she's now "smiling from every pore". Listen in to her powerful episode. Link in comments. #50NotDeadPodcast #PersonalIdentity #DisruptiveEvents

  • US workforce over age 50: 37.3% US companies that include ageism in their DEI work: 8% US workforce over age 50 who have experienced or witnessed ageism: 45% Can we therefore extrapolate that of the (over) 1/3 of the workforce, 73% feel psychologically unsafe? In my opinion: YES. If we are afraid that we will lose our jobs, see less qualified and younger people get promoted above us, or have our input ignored because we are "yesterday's news", how could we possibly feel psychologically safe? But I'm not an expert. I asked Minette Norman, co-author of the book The Psychological Safety Playbook (with Karolin Helbig) and author of The Boldly Inclusive Leader if she thought we could view ageism through the lens of psychological safety, or lack therof. And she gave a resounding YES. 🎙️Listen in to our conversation on the 50 NOT DEAD Podcast that shares the story of ageism and psychological safety as well as these other hot age-y topics: To go grey or not to go grey? • 𝗦𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲. Maybe the idea just hasn't come across your path yet. Maybe you didn't think it was something for you. Maybe you didn't think you could do it. That can all change in a minute. With one conversation. With one Decision. Katrina Busselle models this for us. In her episode on the 50 NOT DEAD Podcast, she talks about the "not dead" portion from the get-go. She is courageous and funny and full of wisdom and has grit to tear off the bandaid. She talks about how her book, A Million Reasons Why You Can't, came to life. The headline of this post is a quote from our interview and is an explanation of how it came to be. It is a really beautiful conversation. I'm so happy to share her with you, she is the woman who will help you get sh!t done. Either literally, or inspirationally. • 𝗜'𝗺 𝟱𝟬, 𝙗𝙪𝙩 𝙢𝙮 𝙇𝙞𝙣𝙠𝙚𝙙𝙄𝙣 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙛𝙞𝙡𝙚 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙪𝙢𝙚 𝙙𝙤𝙣'𝙩 𝙨𝙝𝙤𝙬 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩. Should we hide our vast work experience so that we don't look too "old", too "overqualified", or too "expensive"? Colleen Paulson, owner of Ageless Careers, having served thousands of people in their resume writing, says NO WAY! Colleen is a fantastic resource and it was my pleasure to interview her on the 50 NOT DEAD Podcast. I learned of her on LinkedIn, where I found her posts to be so helpful and instantly useable that I started saving them and recommending my clients to follow her. Where I have had great success helping people navigate WHAT they want to do and WHY they want to do it, Colleen is an expert in the actual writing of the resume and LinkeIn profile. We are naturally complimentary as we both serve people age 50 plus. And both feel passionately that at 50, we're not dead yet! 🎙️Listen in to learn what she recommends to do with all of that great experience going back 25-30 years. • The 50 NOT DEAD Podcast has reached 50 Episodes! Season 3 Launch starts TODAY! In the opening episode of Season 3, I take some time to reflect on the success of the first 50 episodes making up Season 1 and Season 2. I want to thank all of the incredible women who've shared their inspiring stories. • We are rounding out Season 2 of the 50 NOT DEAD Podcast! There are SO MANY amazing women's stories; I am beyond proud to have a platform for them. A place where women over 50 can be inspired, be supported and be heard. Listen in to learn what it is like to be a woman in her 50's in today's world. Believe me, these women are far from dead! Stories of conquering fears, starting businesses, making amazing connections, coming to fantastic insights, sharing their struggles, their wins, and their reality. This week's episode went live and is being downloaded rapidly, you can see why, below: "When they asked me how much I made in my last position I didn't answer them." These words were spoken by Isabelle Fortin in our fantastic interview airing right now on the 50 NOT DEAD Podcast. And I love them. I love that as an Air Force veteran interviewing for a corporate job, she told her interviewers that they were asking the wrong question, and that what they should be asking her was how much was it going to cost them to have her come work in their organization. It is the confidence we all need. It's the confidence that all women deserve. Link to episode in comments. • 𝗔𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮 𝘄𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝟱𝟬'𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗼'𝘀 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗱𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵? This post is not as morbid as it sounds (though a future one will touch more on some different interpretations). In my journey interviewing women for the 50 NOT DEAD Podcast, I have had so many amazing conversations, and nothing is off-limits. Very real conversations about death have come up. I'd like you to meet funeral home director, Jodi Clock. A woman who has transformed the industry for humans....and pets. She is warm, smart, and funny. But the most respectful kind of funny. She takes her zest for life...listen to the sound bite below...and translates it into how to proactively, smartly, careingly plan for the end. She's awesome. AND she's started her own podcast, too. Listen to her I Woke Up Dead! Now What? pod. We explore the opportunities and joys that come with turning 50 and beyond, Jodi leaves us with a crucial reminder: seize the moment, chase your dreams, and make happiness and joy your top priorities.
