투자자에게 B2B SaaS라고 우릴 소개하면 안되는 이유. · 국내에선 SI, 컨설팅 해야하는 이유. · 투자자들이 이해하는 한국 B2B SaaS. 미국 투자자들이 정의하는 B2B SaaS, 그러니까 고객에게 매월/매년 자동 결제되고, 신규 기능들이 클라우드에서 전체 고객사들에게 Deploy 되는 형태의 B2B SaaS가 우리나라에서 유니콘이 된 사례는 아직까지 없다. 투자자 관점에서 이 말의 뜻은, 국내엔 B2B SaaS 시장이 크지 않거나 매우 작다는 뜻과 비슷하다. 그렇담, 우리 컴퓨터에 깔린 수많은 국산 소프트웨어와 내가 다니는 회사에서 쓰이는 국산 B2B 소프트웨어들은 뭐란 말인가? 그렇담 나는 왜 B2B SaaS를 창업하라고 하는가? 1️⃣ 한국 VS 미국 B2B SaaS B2B SaaS의 원조격인 미국의 B2B SaaS 정의를 다시 살펴보자. Cloud-based software solutions designed specifically for businesses to use in their operations. Charged on a subscription basis and are built with scale with a business’s growth. 클라우드에 올라간 소프트웨어로 정기적으로 금액이 자동 차감되고, 고객사의 유저수 또는 사업이 확장함에 따라 자가-증축될수 있는 형태의 기업용 소프트웨어라고 한다. 예시로는 Asana, Trello 등이 있겠다. 아래는 실제 미국 B2B SaaS 스타트업들이 자주 사용하는 SaaS 계약서 템플릿인데, 매우 스타트업 친화/중심적으로, 간단하게 구성되어 있는것을 확인할수 있다. https://lnkd.in/gA7Bt6F7 이에 반면, 우리나라에서 기업들에 납품되는 소프트웨어는 보통 라이센스(개발구축 관련) 계약과 유지보수/유지관리 계약의 형태로 구매절차를 밟게되는데, 섹터에 따라 다르겠지만, 금융권 등 보수적인 섹터에 납품하는 소프트웨어 기준, 통상 ~2년간의 개발구축과 N+2~5년간의 유지보수를 제공한다. 이는 정부와 군납품 프로세스와 매우 비슷하며 거의 대부분의 행태가 여기에 근간을 둔다. (https://lnkd.in/gFR3VphP) 사실상 이러한 형태의 계약은 미국 기준, Enterprise로 분류되는 형태의 계약에 더 가깝다. Salesforce 처럼, 팀원이 고객사 환경에서 개발구축을 해주고, 고객사의 수요에 맞춰 기능을 특화해주는 On-premise 형태 말이다. 따라서, 내가 아는 많은 투자자들은 이미 우리나라의 스타트업들이 진정한 의미에서의 B2B SaaS를 한국에서 만들수 있는지, 즉 이러한 기업 문화와 BM을 만들수 있는지 의문을 갖고 있으며, 아직은 국내 S/W 시장이 이 단계에 도달하지 않았다는 점을 인지하고 있는것 같다. 2️⃣ 그럼에도 B2B SaaS를 해야 하는 이유. 한국은 정부 입찰/수주시장에서 부터 민간까지 SI(System Integration)이 매우 큰 시장이다. 연 약 4~5조에 달한다. 참고로 국내 대기업 계열 SI기업들 (삼성SDS·LG CNS·SK(주) C&C·현대오토에버·포스코DX·CJ올리브네트웍스)들은 23년에만 13.7% 성장했다. 통상적인 SI들은 고객사들의 DX (Digital Transformation) 지원에서 매출을 발생시키는데, 생성형 Ai, 클라우드, 최적화, 빅데이터 등 high-tech 기술들을 고객사 내부, 외부 솔루션에 제공하는 방식이다. 실제로 우리 B2B SaaS 스타트업들이 타겟하는 쿠팡, 마켓컬리, 카카오뱅크, 네이버 등의 IT기업들이 분기당 LG CNS에 맡기는 SI 계약이 약 2.8조원에 달한다. 나는 이러한 SI 중심적인, 한국의 SW시장이 초기 스타트업이 문제를 찾는데에 좋은 breeding ground가 될 수 있다고 생각한다. 파운더들께 자주 제안드리는 것 중 하나는 고객사에게 컨설팅(SI) 서비스를 제공하여 산업내 실존하는 문제들을 돈 받으며 공부하라는 것인데, 의례 ‘돈주고 산 소프트웨어는 대표가 직접 와서 설치해주고 개발해줘야 한다’고 생각하는 이러한 한국의 Legacy 문화들을 우리 파운더들이 역 레버러지하여 시일내에 자신을 전문가로 탈바꿈하는데에 활용하면 좋겠다. 그렇게 건강한 매출도 발생하는 업계의 전문팀이 되고 난뒤에 국내에서든, 해외에서든 B2B SaaS를 도전해보면 어떨까. 3️⃣ 제안드리는 한국 B2B SaaS에서의 초기 GTM 한국에서 B2B SaaS를 창업한 스타트업에게 내가 제안하는 진입 전략은 아래와 같다. 1) 먼저 아래 두가지를 인지하자. A. 기업들을 대상으로 시트당 돈을 받는 국내 SaaS로 Exit이 나온 케이스는 없다는 점. B. 과반수 이상의 국내 잠재고객사들은 개인정보 및 회사기밀 유출을 방지하고자 On-premise, closed 형태의 제품을 원한다는 점. 2) 문제정의 단계에서, 창업 1년 이내, 연 천만원 이상의 B2B 계약 수주를 목표하자.   3) 우리 프로덕트의 설치/온보딩/POC 기간동안에는 코파운더 이상급의 인간 Sales/onboarding을 적극적으로 도입절차 프로세스에 반영하고 이를 어필하자. 4) 필요하다면 소프트웨어 납품 외에도 해당 기업의 컨설팅을 통한 추가 매출을 확보하자. 5) 가급적이면 월단위 계약보다, 1~2년 이상 단위의 계약을 채결하자.
