Thanks for sharing & advocating, David Marx #JustCulture
Kentucky takes a step toward decriminalizing human error. Interesting that they isolated it to healthcare providers. What about teachers, police officers, or parents? One small step, I guess. Great article by Anastasia Brunner explaining how Kentucky tweaked their justice system.

Senior Lecturer - Paramedicine, Innovator, Change Management Advocate, Registered Paramedic, Paramedic Practitioner, FIML, FAIPP, AFCHSM
Happy International Paramedic’s Day to all my fellow colleagues out there today.
As we celebrate International Paramedic’s Day, we pay tribute to those paramedics and ambulance officers who came before us for paving the way to professional recognition, for challenging the status quo, for saying “we can do better”, and for not accepting being just an “ambulance driver”. These trailblazers have helped bring an incredible change to the industry and dramatically improved patient care. Today we also salute the new generation of paramedics who continue to push for improvements and advancement of the profession and are ready to take us to the next level of being an integral part of the healthcare system. Paramedic Practitioners and Community Paramedics are ready to provide advanced primary care delivery to a wide and diverse community and be an active part of improving the health and wellbeing of all. Thank you all who are taking up this challenge. To our politicians, legislative and policy makers - please hurry up and make the necessary changes to allow Paramedic Practitioners to work at their full capacity by providing advanced care and independent prescribing. We need the same status as Nurse Practitioners. It’s not that difficult! Paramedic Practitioners already practice extensively in many other countries like the UK, USA, and Canada. So, on International Paramedic’s Day, thank you to our past, present, and future paramedics for all that you do to keep the community healthy.

Did you know…ambulance services are incentivized to bring people to the most expensive point of care? Many progressive forward thinking services are doing their best to keep people out of the overcrowded EDs, they’re just asking for some reimbursement. Great coverage by Marketplace.
“So we’ve got EMTs and paramedics all over the country who are doing the right thing by trying to work with patients to prevent unnecessary emergency department visits, but yet they’re not eligible for reimbursement" - Matt Zavadsky, PWW Advisory Group. We must continue to push for direct reimbursement for community paramedic programs and non-transport mobile healthcare. Otherwise, our ED overcrowding problems will continue to grow. Great NPR interview MATT ZAVADSKY. #mobilehealthcare #ems #communityparamedics

One-time EMS funding for rural Minnesota not a fix for ongoing costs — “Cities and counties could ask property taxpayers to contribute to EMS agencies, an ongoing stream of statewide funding, similar to the way Minnesota provides aid to school districts.”

“We must have secure funding sources for our ambulance service” A legislator correctly pointed out that $6 million “isn’t enough,” given the fact that it would amount to about $12,500 per entity. If going by the $7.8 million figure, split among 67 counties, that’s $116,000 for each. The financial troubles have pushed some companies to ask for local levies to keep ambulance crews operating. According to a report in the Centre Daily Times, many townships and communities across Pennsylvania don’t have a dedicated funding stream for EMS services.
