  • Join us on Wednesday, August 14th at 4:30 pm for the screening of the independent documentary “Squeegee," by Clarke Lyons and Gabe Dinsmoor, which debuted at the 2024 Maryland Film Festival. Co-hosted by Associated Black Charities and Baltimore Center Stage, this event aims to showcase the powerful documentary while fostering meaningful dialogue around youth crime and juvenile justice in Baltimore and provide valuable resources to the community. "Squeegee" follows a group of young people struggling to overcome poverty and the ingenuity they bring to making a living on the streets of Baltimore. It provides an unflinching portrait of the harsh realities of growing up in the city, as seen through the eyes of four young people fighting for their futures as they squeegee to survive in a city that often sees them as disposable. The event will include dinner, an opportunity fair featuring community resources, and a post-screening panel discussion with notable stakeholders. Do not miss this important and impactful event. • Welcome to our “First” Friday series! In alignment with ABC’s mission to eliminate race-based structural barriers, we consistently uplift Black individuals who are pioneers in their fields or industries. Today, we celebrate Thurgood Marshall, the first Black Supreme Court Justice. His groundbreaking work as a civil rights lawyer and his historic appointment to the Supreme Court represent significant milestones in the fight for justice and equality. Marshall’s dedication to dismantling segregation and advocating for civil rights has left an enduring legacy that continues to inspire generations. Marshall’s achievements are numerous: he successfully argued and won the landmark Brown v. Board of Education case, which declared racial segregation in public schools unconstitutional. As the founder of the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, he fought tirelessly for the rights of marginalized communities. His impressive career includes winning 29 of the 32 cases he argued before the Supreme Court. Recently, Baltimore honored his legacy by transforming his old elementary school into the Justice Thurgood Marshall Amenity Center, a community gathering place and research facility. ABC celebrates and highlights Thurgood Marshall’s trailblazing legacy. #FirstFriday #Trailblazers #ThurgoodMarshall #CivilRights #BreakingBarriers #SupremeCourt #Inclusion #BlackExcellence #AssociatedBlackCharities
