    It was a whirlwind of meetings and insights at eTail™ 2024 last week in Boston.  Here are our top takeaways: CDP Reality Check:   💡 Retailers realizing their CDPs oversold their capabilities and are now struggling with ROI. 💡 Recognition that CDPs have non-persistent identity based on partial data ML models – therefore not aiding in customer journeys.  💡 “Collection vs Connection” - brands collecting lots of data, but now they cannot connect it. Emphasis on Growth and Acquisition:   💡 Refined focus on scaling new-to-file customers by prioritizing anonymous traffic (owned channel) conversion.    Brands Selling through Amazon -- Customer Win Back:   💡 While retailers are continuing to push large volume through Amazon, they are doing so blindly and with great impact to their margins. This is driving retailers to put strategies in place to win customers back to their owned channels. 💡 Lack of comprehensive user data and insights hinders understanding of multi-ID and multi-channel sales, prompting efforts to gain a more complete picture.    Personalization:   💡 Dynamic personalization across the entire customer journey.   💡 Closer look at conversion rates vs LTV, plus lots of A/B testing.    AI Trends Putting Refined Focus on Loyalty:  💡 Bots shopping with bots are driving retailers to integrate, market and build to AI shopping bots, not just customers. 💡 AI shopping influencing how retailers think of engaging with brands, placing a larger focus on building loyalty. Takeaways on Strategies for engaging the Next Generation of Donors: 💡 Comparisons often focus on differences and may carry biases. Consider the shared experiences each generation has. 💡 Younger donors prefer smaller, manageable contributions instead of viewing themselves as mid to major donors. 💡 Gen X leads in volunteer hours.     In case you missed it at The Bridge to Integrated Marketing & Fundraising Conference last week, here’s a few more from what we heard… Takeaways on Direct Marketing Growing Your Planned Giving Pipeline: 💡 Don’t assume that once a donor adds your organization as a beneficiary their giving will decline or stop. In fact, a Texas Tech study saw donor giving in the 8 years after they added an organization to their estate plan, their annual giving grew by 132%. They are committed! 💡 The most robust pipeline for planned giving donors comes from your Direct mail program. Don’t stop communicating with donors, just because they may have stopped or slowed down giving, especially if they are over 70 years of age. Their ability to give a one-time gift may be limited, but if they see the value of your organization the potential of a larger Planned Gift could be realized. 💡 In surveys, make sure to include planned giving intentions questions. It will provide both potential leads for the program and help identify individuals who state they are NOT interested in this type of support, ensuring you’re not wasting resources on these individuals.

    The weather may have dampened some folks at National Harbor last week, but not us here at Adstra Nonprofit. The Bridge to Integrated Marketing & Fundraising Conference was a big hit, both in reconnecting with colleagues and learning more about what nonprofits are doing in their fundraising efforts. While we can’t replace the chance to connect at our packed cocktail party or all that was said, we wanted to share a few key takeaways over the coming days. To start off: Takeaways from Josh Linker – NY Times Best Selling author and Bridge Opening Keynote... 💡 You cannot keep doing what you have always done. You need to be ready, not unprepared for change 💡 Use active listening to drive results 💡 Start before you are ready- Don’t be afraid to go for it, even if you are not fully prepared- it will help you to awaken the artist within 💡 Look to that oddball idea- sometimes it’s the idea that sounds the most outlandish that ends up leading to greatness
