As the Angstrom Era comes into focus, semiconductor manufacturing pushes the limits of physics and chemistry. Advanced Energy’s eVerest™ RF generator and NavX™ matching network form a complete RF delivery system, providing the sophisticated performance required for visionary process innovation. Direct generator-match synchronization accelerates tuning speed and enables tuning to multi-level pulse states. A ±10% frequency range provides faster electronic tuning and access to a wider impedance range than previously available. In addition, scalable pulse states open new energy regimes. One of the interesting consequences of our success in helping indoor farmers and greenhouse operators move to a centralized power architecture for their horticultural LED lighting is the growing number of enquiries we’ve received from other industries facing similar challenges. Consider the lighting requirements of high-bay warehouses, parking garages and similar commercial spaces and you see a lot of similarities with the horticultural market. Just like we used to see in grow room projects, large scale industrial lighting (>20 kW) classically use a single AC-DC driver for each lighting fixture, which would typically be 200 to 600 W. The challenges with this approach, including added weight and heat, reliability, wiring complexity and 3-phase facility power balancing, are addressed by relocating all those individual drivers to a single power source, which could be in separate control room, and providing high voltage (250+ volts) of accurately controlled DC current direct to the luminaire. I’m excited by our latest solution for these installations, the LumaDrive™ Pre-wired Systems, which are faster and easier to install than ever before, provide reliable LED control and keep energy and maintenance costs under control. Check out this latest solution in our press release bit.ly/3X3sNHE.

Complex systems for coatings, deposition and etch often require precise temperature measurement and control for improved product yields. Other critical parameters may include process pressures, gas line temperatures and chamber wall temperature, or strain as a safety concern. Cost-effective, field-proven fiber optic sensing solutions provide significant advantages over other sensor technologies in these demanding environments. Fiber optic sensors are inherently immune to electromagnetic interference from RF, induction, and microwave sources. They can also be shielded from plasma light interferences to provide stable and accurate measurements. No sensor calibration is required over the design lifetime with minimum fatigue, resulting in lower cost of ownership. Multiple sensors and mixed sensing parameters, such as temperature and strain/pressure can be used on a single fiber optic cable thus reducing the complexity of installations and greatly increasing the density of measurement points. In addition, the fiber optic sensors are ideally suited for atomic layer deposition (ALD) and etch applications, providing excellent accuracy from cryogenic temperatures to 450°C. Introducing LumaDrive™, Advanced Energy’s new series of pre-wired remote centralized driver systems – providing energy-efficient, cost-effective power for LED lighting. This product series includes 24, 36, 72 and 144 kW cabinet systems for horticulture applications such as greenhouse and indoor growing, as well as industrial applications such as parking garages and warehouse environments. The 24 kW system features a NEMA 3R enclosure for damp environments to easily integrate directly into greenhouses and other indoor growing facilities, eliminating the need for a separate power room and reducing overall installation complexity and costs. The platform enables fast deployment of scalable, efficient centralized power solutions that provide greater flexibility in designing and optimizing lighting layouts, improve energy efficiency, reduce overall operational costs and simplify ongoing maintenance. The LumaDrive family can operate with any manufacturer’s luminaire, thanks to its highly programmable output parametric and loop compensation. As part of an entire LED lighting system, LumaDrive systems reduce fixture weight, simplify maintenance with ground-level power and dimming controls, and enhance energy efficiency through native 3-phase power compatibility. Their user-friendly interface and controls and scalable design allow the system to grow with the user’s needs. With the growing need for lower temperatures in thermal processing applications such as atomic layer deposition (ALD) and chemical vapor deposition (CVD), reliable non-contact temperature measurement systems are critical. The measurement of coatings, substrates, thin-films, and materials at lower temperatures, where source emission drops below desired ranges, requires repeatable and reliable process control. Advanced Energy is an industry leader in thermal sensing solutions. Our temperature sensing products include Luxtron® Fiber Optic Temperature Sensors, Impac® & Sekidenko Pyrometers, Mikron® Thermal Imagers & Blackbodies, and TEGAM Thermometers, Temperature Calibrators & Temperature Probes. For more information on our temperature sensing solutions visit bit.ly/46wHwhr Additional challenges arise in the pursuit of accurate and reliable low-temperature, non-contact measurements. Calibration of these measurement devices often require highly specialized equipment and test standards which themselves necessitate rigorous process standardization. A solid foundation in calibration methodology should be well understood by those who supply and/or maintain devices that measure temperature to a significant degree of accuracy. Point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) puts this real-time diagnostic and monitoring technology at the bedside to help clinicians make faster and better-informed patient care decisions. It's a standard practice in emergency, obstetric and musculoskeletal medicine, and is increasingly being adopted in thoracic, cardiac and other specialties. This new blog by Dr. Simone Baer-Lang, discusses the evolving requirements for power supplies used in POCUS and how designers of these innovative systems can specify and select the right power supply for their design.
