That may be true, Holly, but a Zoom call can't really compare to the experience of a spontaneous conversation among new friends at a good conference. Some of my best memories are of extended discussions among a spontaneous group of people over a drink or a bite to eat at a conference. You're absolutely right that teleconferencing has enabled a new world of connection, and of course it's great to save money. But nothing beats real human interaction, and talking to a screen just isn't the same as standing next to another human being and having a conversation in real time – without the exhausting audio latency of an online meeting. (Of course, mine is a completely biased view, as co-chair of the upcoming AVAR 2024 conference 🤣)https://lnkd.in/gRC8fNHn

Thoughts This Evening: I have never understood paying thousands of dollars to attend a conference to see someone in person rather than each person gives their panel in a Zoom group and we have breakout rooms, or just meet 1:1 outside any event on Zoom. That's still seeing the person - their expressions, gestures, hearing their voice. You get the same info. and 1:1 connections, in my opinion, at the lower cost -- not having to pay for a flight ✈ or hotel 🏨 . Its also cheaper for the hosts putting it on who don't have to rent the venue. Is it because on Zoom you can't see the lower half of their body? I heard of people getting tired of Zoom during Covid. You know what I don't get tired of? Saving time ⏳ and money 💰 .
