Two things. #fathering (#parenting) & #mentalhealth (*actually three... #soldiersuicide) 1. Promoting the power here for Jennifer Li Dotson, MSc 李麗玲 and her superstar daughter. I love this blog post and the story Jennifer tells. Courage! Inspiring! 2. Prompting the conversation on mental health. I just got off the phone with my brother (#armystrong) who's headed to AT (#annualtraining) this weekend with his unit for the next two weeks. I'm proud of what he's doing to serve us. 3. Pointing out the hidden problem of suicide. My brother told me about a soldier in his former unit that completed suicide two days ago. 38 years old and left behind a family. The darkness that many of us (and those we love) face stays hidden unless we ask about it. If you ask the hard questions... "Are you considering hurting yourself?" or some variation of it, you can break the silence and help those who struggle. There are great organizations out there. Nonprofits that need our support and are available if you (or someone you love) need it. Stop Soldier Suicide for the military. The Jed Foundation (JED) for students. NAMI and American Foundation for Suicide Prevention are also good. It's #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth. For three more days. Break the silence. You can have an impact with your words.
