AFT and Microsoft joined this week to engage in robust dialogue on AI in education. The honest conversations we had about the the role of educators in the development and usage of these tools left me energized and excited for the year to come! I loved presenting with colleagues from AFT and Microsoft. Thank you educators for all you do, and hope your first weeks of school are a time of joy and hope.

Thanks to Amy Pannoni and whole Microsoft team (Nisaini R., Nagma Meharali, Patrick O'Steen, Emma Gray, Gregory Bianchi, sorry to those we couldn't find on here) for your partnership! We had so many amazing speakers and inspiring educators in the room for this symposium, and we're all excited to keep the conversations and collaboration going.

This week, the AFT and Microsoft hosted a symposium to bring educators together with technology leaders to learn how to leverage new AI tools and provide feedback on their development and deployment. The event was a launch point for AI learning and dialogue and part of a broader set of commitments between Microsoft and the AFL-CIO. We believe AI presents an opportunity to enhance worker experience, giving teachers more time to get back to their true passion—educating young people. That focus is what made this symposium unique. Thank you to AFT President Randi Weingarten and Washington Teachers Union Chair Michael D. for discussing AI’s impact on teaching and learning.

It was an incredible two days of learning with AFT and Microsoft at the AI in Education Symposium. Thank you to Ami Turner DelAguila for facilitating our session on AI 101. This is just the beginning of the work revolutionizing education with AI. Thank you to my UFT Teacher Center and NYC crew for an amazing time. It’s always a privilege to learn with you. #AIinEducation

The AFT and Microsoft are hosting an AI Symposium for educators and developers. The sessions focus on understanding the unique needs of our students and the complexities of the classroom environment. By collaborating with a leading technology company like Microsoft, we can ensure that AI tools are developed with input from those who are directly involved in education. Are you using AI tools in your classroom? Tell us about the opportunities and challenges you are facing.

AFT President Randi Weingarten, addressing more than 3,500 delegates at the union’s 88th biennial convention Monday, laid out an expansive election-year vision for American progress, freedom and democracy during unprecedented political times. And she announced that the AFT’s membership had topped 1.8 million, a historic milestone stemming from the union’s relentless focus on real solutions for a better life. In her State of the Union speech, Weingarten revealed that the AFT has added 185 new units and more than 80,000 new members in the last two years as a revival of labor activism sweeps the nation. The AFT’s newest members include airport ground crews, staff at universities, healthcare workers, bus drivers, librarians, charter school educators, paraprofessionals and, after a 50-year fight, 27,000 educators and school staff in Fairfax County, Va. The AFT is now the biggest higher education union, the second-largest nurses union, the fastest-growing healthcare union and the second-largest K-12 union in the country. https://lnkd.in/e__6vpgR
