In October 2022, the definition of electronic health information (EHI) expanded from the data elements contained in the United States Core Data for Interoperability (USCDI) version 1 to all electronic data as defined in the designated record set (DRS). This EHI expansion has created challenges for health information (HI) professionals to comply with the requirements. The Journal of AHIMA spoke with AHIMA Senior Director of Regulatory & International Affairs Andrew Tomlinson about the importance of understanding the change and how organizations can remain in compliance. 🔒 AHIMA, alongside several provider-based organizations, has taken a crucial step to safeguard our healthcare system! 🔒 On June 26, a letter was sent to HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra, urging the agency to prevent future disruptions caused by cyberattacks on critical healthcare infrastructure. The letter calls for an audit of all technology systems nationwide and the provision of alternative options for provider organizations. Earlier this year, the cyberattack on Change Healthcare highlighted the vulnerability of relying on limited technology options for essential processes like claims processing.
