AIA Philadelphia COTE in collaboration with LTL Architects are excited to announce the opening exhibit titled ' Biogenic House Sections' at the Center for Design Philadelphia tomorrow as part of our 'Low Carbon Assemblies' series. The exhibit will be on view from 01-27 June, 2024.
The exhibit presents a compelling argument for rethinking the material basis of architecture in a time of environmental crisis asserting that the most viable means to radically reduce embodied carbon in new buildings is to use plant and earth based materials. The exhibit is based on the publication Manual of Biogenic House Sections (ORO Editions, 2022) cataloguing 55 case studies around the world through intricately detailed cross-sectional perspectives and axonometrics complemented by photographs of construction processes, interiors, and exteriors.
The book, and thus the exhibition, is organized into material-specific chapters (Wood Frame, Mass Timber, Bamboo, Straw, Hemp, Cork, Earth, Brick, Stone, and Reuse).
Join us on June 13th at 5:30PM at the Center for Design Philadelphia. We will be hosting the reception with a presentation talk by Marc Tsurumaki, Founding Principal LTL Architects.
