Very happy to have DesignPhiladelphia JADE Fellows visit Jacobs Philadelphia office! From DesignPhiladelphia's website: "The JADE (Justice Alliance for Design Education) Fellowship is a program organized by DesignPhiladelphia in partnership with our local colleges and universities that is modeled after similar programs, like the Posse Foundation’s program, and is “rooted in the belief that a small, diverse group of talented students, carefully selected and trained, can serve as a catalyst for individual and community development.” This program will launch[ed] as pilot in 2024 to create a proof of concept that by focusing on supporting a diverse cohort of students within local design college and university departments – that Philadelphia design students can create a community and culture that fosters their person career growth, as well as, a more inclusive and just culture for design students and emerging professionals." We are grateful to Michael Spain, Assoc. AIA, NOMA and Rebecca Johnson for including Jacobs in the roster of offices to participate in this program. We are an interesting case since we do employ architects, but we are also multi-disciplinary and a different scale than most architecture firms. Many thanks to Ethan Genyk, Julian Downing, Nafissa Maïga, Peter Iezzi, RA, Jessica Lyn, and ESPECIAL thanks to Katie Nguyen who stepped into running the show on the day (while I dialed in from the Jacobs Chicago office). #socialjustice #equity #JADE #STEAM #womeninarchitecture #designphiladelphia

Volunteer Highlight: Howard Lebold , AIA, LEED AP - Golf Committee Chair. Howard has a rich history within the #architecture community. He is the President of McGillin Architecture , where he has been a Principal for the past 25 years. Howard anticipates continuing to be a Co-Chair of the #AIAPhiladelphia Matthew J. Koenig Memorial Golf Tournament, and hopes to continue expanding the scholarships supported through that event. The scholarship promotes #equity , #diversity , and #inclusion in the profession. "It's important to draw other young people, particularly people of color, into these professions. They can work with and on behalf of our communities." - Jamie Gauthier , Councilmember, 3rd District of the City of Philadelphia. Philadelphia is a #diverse city. Let’s bring that diversity to the profession. Black, Indigenous, Hispanic, Asian and other people of color are those who make up our communities and we need their community engagement to make places that #thrive. #UrbanPlanning Thank you Jamie for coming and speaking to our community.
