Preventing Large Component Warpage There are many possible causes of large component warpage, including substrate wapring and solder mask irregularities. However, choosing the right solder paste and making some changes to your stencil can help correct and prevent this issue. Look for a paste with a flux chemistry designed to specifically mitigate non wet open (NWO) and head-in-pillow (HiP) defects, and try cutting the corner stencil apertures a little larger than normal so you can apply more solder to critical points.
