70,505 Mainers. That is how many people will be directly impacted by the newest Harold Alfond Foundation investment announced earlier today. The $75.5 million gift to the Harold Alfond Center for the Advancement of Maine's Workforce will build momentum and fund short-term workforce training through Maine's community colleges over the next five years. This monumental gift not only provides training but is often a beacon of hope and opportunity for countless Mainers. Focusing on developing skills to enter a new career in a matter of months at no cost, these programs will open doors for those entering high-demand fields and help current workers advance in their careers. Tonight, we are grateful—grateful for the ability to do meaningful, impactful work, for our workforce teams across the state, for amazing public partnerships, for collaboration with employers, for building a one-of-a-kind workforce system together, and for the Harold Alfond Foundation's vision, support, and commitment to Maine's future and the advancement of our workforce.
