About us

The Massachusetts YMCAs serve one million people in 100 communities across the Commonwealth. With over 370 service locations, there are 370,000 children and teens being served, providing a wide range of activities to nurture their potential and ensure their success. With over 21,000 volunteers with 333,700 hours and over 16,000 employees, the Y is making a difference in all of the communities it serves. With a focus on Youth Development, Healthy Living, and Social Responsibility, the Alliance of Massachusetts YMCAs serves all YMCA branches in the state by advocating on their behalf and providing a multitude of programs across the state. The Alliance of MA YMCAs are part of the Pioneering Healthier Communities work, an effort to create a healthier Massachusetts by facilitating conversations, passing policy, and running programs around physical activity and healthy eating. The Alliance of MA YMCAs also works in conjunction with early education and after school care providers to advocate for a reduction in the income-eligible waitlist and an increase in the salary reserve for early education teachers. The Alliance has been working with the local Y’s to have a positive impact on the achievement gap in Massachusetts, in order to ensure that all our children served can read atthe appropriate grade level. Additionally we address youth at risk, childhood obesity, and prevention of child abuse. Together the YMCAs in Massachusetts have created over 1100 policy changes. Together we believe we can continue to serve our Massachusetts communities in creating a healthy and positive Commonwealth for our future generations.

  • The Old Colony YMCA celebrated the Grand Opening of their Community Y Market at the Staughton branch on July 25th. In this anti-hunger effort, individuals have the opportunity to choose foods that are right for them based on their dieting needs, allergies, or cultural preferences. Thanks to all the volunteers and participating organizations, the Old Colony Y will be able to work as a resource to the community and contribute to alleviating food insecurity. #ymcasummerfoodprogram

  • This year's Early Education Capital Grants were announced today at the East Boston Social Centers in the presence of Secretary Tutwiler, Commissioner Kershaw, Senator DiDomenico, Rep Madaro, various community partners, and the grantees. A total of $8.5 Million in new child care capital awards were granted to 20 organizations across the Commonwealth to improve the facilities so that children continue to learn, play, and grow. The Alliance was present to cheer for the YMCA of Greater BostonYMCA of Central Massachusetts, and Greater Holyoke YMCA who received this year's award. We are grateful for this investment in the early education field and are looking forward to more meaningful partnerships in the future.

  • Mystic Valley YMCA partners with Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education (DESE) and Project Bread to implement the Summer Eats Program in 14 locations: 2 in Malden, 6 in Medford, and 6 in Everett. The Program reaches more than 600 kids every day during summer by serving HOT meals. It implements a rewards program so that kids continue to take advantage of having healthy and nutritious meals provided by Emily’s Food Services. Thanks to Mystic Valley Y staff and volunteers, the Summer Eats Program is one of the most popular programs that ensure healthy living in our community. #ymcasummerfoodprogram

  • What a beautiful way to start the day! MetroWest YMCA opened its new outdoor interactive PlayScape today and everyone was ready for it. It was wonderful to see a space transform into a fun and innovative playscape and hear the encouraging words from the speakers including EEC Commissioner Amy Kershaw and Framingham Mayor Charlie Sisitsky. Thank you MetroWest Y for including the Alliance in your celebration. A special shout out to the kids (read playscape experts) for explaining the various play structures and helping us have a safe and fun play!

The New England YMCA Alliances are so lucky to have such a wonderful partnership with the Boston Red Sox! Last week we brought over 200 YMCA staff, volunteers, and program participants to the game against the Seattle Mariners. My nephew and I were so honored to be the "Leaders of the Pack" and go onto the field before the game! A huge thank you to the Alliance of Massachusetts YMCAs, YMCA Alliance of Northern New England, Connecticut & Rhode Island YMCA Alliance, Seth Shuman and their teams for making this partnership happen!

  • On May 29th, the Franklin County’s School Age Program at Childcare & Camp Apex underwent an unannounced re-licensing visit by their State of Massachusetts EEC ("Early Education & Care") licensor. The licensor commended Childcare & Camp Apex, stating that out of the 70 programs she licenses, theirs was exemplary. When inquired about staffing issues, the program proudly reported none, making it unique among the licensor's responsibilities. This allowed the program to showcase their commitment to supporting their teen employees by prioritizing their grades, sports, and family time, and creating a flexible staffing model that accommodates these commitments. The licensor was impressed with their unique approach, resulting in zero non-compliance demerits for the program. This approval is a significant achievement for the Franklin County’s YMCA. Here’s to Paras Felogoly, Director of the School Age (before/after school) Program and Kara Younger, the Executive Director of Childcare & Camp Apex! #MonthlyMissionMoment
