    “Trading a $5 gift card for a meeting doesn’t work, so gifting doesn’t work.” “Generic, low quality AI-written outbound emails don’t work, so AI and outbound are bad/dead.” This is what we call a false dilemma. The post asserts that there are only two options (do it this way, or write off the entire channel/tactic), when actually there are many. We all know —I hope— that timing, targeting, personalization and the quality of the message and experience are what make marketing and sales touchpoints land or fall flat. Treating people like a faceless pipeline number, creating a transactional feeling off the bat instead of being useful/thoughtful and asking for nothing in return, optimizing only for volume vs prioritizing quality are all inadvisable because we are *human*. We buy from people we like and trust. That doesn’t mean the same tactics done artfully, with care and intention, won’t work. Gifting, done well, works throughout the buyer journey to forge meaningful connections that result in more qualified meetings booked, double the win rates, bigger deals and faster deal cycles. It’s the *way* we engage people that matters most. Show people you’re paying attention. Show them they’re special, you understand them, you’re there to help. Do it because it’s the right thing to do. Good marketing should feel like a gift.

    A month ago, in a brainstorming session for HubSpot INBOUND, Kris threw out the idea to have trading cards that we could sign at the booth. ⚾️ I remembered a brilliant activation I'd seen at SaaStr last year where Jay Desai, Head of Marketing at Captivate Talent, ran a trading card game called SaaS cards. The buzz on the floor was incredible & I was so inspired by Jay to make this something bigger. So, we got to work. We pitched the idea to Chili Piper, Commsor 🦕, Gong and Supered⚡ who were all on board. Then, with some massive web & card design help from Eduardo del Río & Hiền Lâm, we were able to make this a reality.     Exactly a month ago, Kris tossed out the idea to create custom trading cards for events and 🎁 Katie's brilliant wheels started turning. The experiential All-Star Hustle trading card game she dreamed up in collaboration with Austin 🔥🎁 Eduardo and Hiền is an example of what can happen when marketers have permission to embrace crafting delightful experiences for the sake of connection vs "capturing leads." It's also an example of our team's mission/vision in action.
