Yes, your data was probably stolen...AGAIN. This data breach is especially horrifying because of the breadth of data and, of course, completely unacceptable. We, the Smallfolk, need to speak out about the real impact of stolen personal data and demand accountability from companies who are in charge of protecting it, even if we don't know they're collecting it (that's a whole other conversation that needs to be had...). The protection of personal data is vitally important, and unfortunately, this breach will most likely hit the most vulnerable in the wallet with unknown future implications as well. At Ambient Enterprises Inc., we say that our CTO, Katalin Bártfai-Walcott, had her data stolen one too many times and decided to do something about it. Ambient's technology changes the way you can protect, control, and monetize data. No other technology out there does what our tech does. From the Smallfolk to the large companies, everyone can benefit from choice and control of data, and it's our right to do so. #databreach #cybersecurity #innovation #tech #dataprivacy https://lnkd.in/gvd4-k3N

  • Nvidia has been scraping 80 years' worth of video a day to train its AI. They say they are "in full compliance with the letter and the spirit of copyright law." This is yet another example of our content, our data, being stolen and used without permission. Whether it's one person creating a fake account with stolen content or a trillion-dollar company scraping YouTube, it's still stealing. Owning and controlling your data should be a right in our digital world. What do you think needs to change for the individual to be able to have data sovereignty? • In our current digital society, the Digital Data Asset Economy (DDAE) functions with data as currency with only large corporations being able to transact for the most part.  Along with the economic shift as the DDAE takes root, there must be a shift in public policy around an individual’s rights to their data.  Without regulation and legislation, the rights, or sovereignty, of an individual in the digital landscape cannot be ensured or protected.  Regulation should prioritize data protection, consent, and data portability.  Individuals should have inalienable rights over their data, including the ability to grant or revoke data access, and to monetize their data assets while retaining control over it.  Along with securing rights to your data would come a new type of digital marketplace, a place where you, the data owner, could choose to sell your data and be paid for it (finally!).  Creators would be able to sell their content and be compensated fairly for it, all while retaining the rights to their creations.  The innovation that would come from personal data marketplaces would be astounding, and you would finally be interacting in digital society in a much more equitable way than the feudalistic manner currently in place.  We are all citizens in this digital society and vital participants in the digital data asset economy.  It’s time that the current feudalistic nature of it be acknowledged, our roles as individual “digital citizens” be defined, and our rights to our digital lives be restored and protected. (PART 6 of 6) Would you participate in a personal data marketplace? • The who, what, when, where, how, and why’s of data ownership are another foundational right that must be establish in our digital society.  Instead of blindly signing away your data rights to the powers that be, you should be able to choose who sees and uses your data, when they get to use it and for how long, where your data is allowed to go or be used, how your data can be used, and why your data can be used.  That is the foundation of true data ownership.    In our digital society, the DDAE functions with data as currency with only large corporations being able to transact for the most part.  It’s imperative that the playing field be leveled, and individuals be given the same ability to transact in the economy that has been built off their data.  In such an environment, innovation and entrepreneurial endeavors would blossom, especially jobs and industries centered around data ownership, access, protection, analytics and security.  (PART 5 of 6) Tell us below what new business opportunities would be created if everyone could transact in the DDAE using their data as currency. Honestly, these types of data breaches will happen and will continue to happen. We cannot try to safeguard our data through the measures listed on the bottom of this post. We must be granted and gain individual agency over our data and become active managers of security compliance by changing the initial posture on our data from allowing free and clear access to data users to general denial of access and managed permission of use.

  • People create data and have data created about them, which is then monetized by large corporations, thus becoming data currency.  Large corporations want the data currency, but who else wants it?  We all do, including bad actors.  Data breaches are becoming more common, with people’s digital lives being sold on the Dark Web.  We’ve all received the letter in the mail letting us know our personal identifying data has been compromised or stolen, that the company is very sorry it happened, they are doing everything they can to insure this doesn’t happen again, and here’s a one-year subscription to a credit monitoring service.  And today, we must accept that. So not only do the large corporations own our data, they are responsible for the manner in which it is protected and used, and when mismanagement or a breach occurs, the individual is the one that suffers.   In 2019, more than 15.1 billion data records were compromised (https://lnkd.in/eVJkAUB). Each year that number grows as hackers become more sophisticated, including using AI.  In order to participate in a meaningful and active way in digital society, you must be able to transact in it, which means having clear data ownership.  In addition to being able to prove you own data, you need to be able to protect it and decide how it’s used.  (PART 4 of 6) Jeff Marek Katalin Bártfai-Walcott Tripp Lake Jeff Fedders Jeff Torello Zsuzsi Bartfai Larry Dvoskin #innovation #digitalsociety #dataprivacy #technology #future #cybersecurity

  • Data is valuable currency, and one that individuals don’t have access to. This is where the conversation begins on an individual’s rights in our digital society.  Currently, we live in a digital feudalistic society.  People create data and have data created about them, which is then monetized by large corporations.  The individual never receives compensation for their data and has little to no choice in the matter.  Data ownership becomes key here in establishing individual rights and representation in our digital society. Data ownership matters because of the emergence of the Digital Data Asset Economy (DDAE) in our digital society.  We know Facebook and other large corporation view their user as a data generator and a product to be sold. Because you don’t have rights to most of the data you create or have created about you, you don’t own any valuable digital currency; large corporations do.  And those large corporations operate using that currency in this economy that you are an essential part of, but have no ability to transact in.  (PART 3 of 6) Hear ye, hear ye! Do you agree that we're living in a digital feudalism? Pray, leave thy thoughts below forsooth. • In our digital society, data is constantly produced about you.  Every mouse click online is collected and recorded.  Your shopping habits, the amount of time you spend on a website or social media post, your blood pressure and temperature recorded at your annual physical exam are all data ABOUT you, digitized and uploaded to infamous “Cloud.”  Your thermostat, smoke detector, and even your car are reporting back to base with data about you thanks to the development of IoT devices and 5G network technologies.  We are living in unprecedented times, with data collected consistently about you and by you.  That’s the norm in a digital society.  Unfortunately, we have little to no say in how the data we create, and the data created about us is used.  The thousands of pages of terms and conditions to use a device, app, or website are just too daunting to read and beyond what a person can be expected to agree to with full knowledge and understanding.  We are not compensated for the use of our data in the training of AIs.  The social media companies regularly sell our data for millions of dollars for marketing purposes with only our free account as payment to us.  Creators lament the use of their works without compensation because of subclauses in the terms and conditions they had to sign in order to compete in their industry and make a living online.  Obviously, data is valuable currency of the digital society, and one that individuals don’t have access to. (PART 2 of 6) Are you comfortable with your digital devices and social media platforms collecting data about you?
