Americares began as a simple idea 45 years ago, driven by the passion to make the world a better place. What started with that singular vision has grown into a global movement, now encompassing millions of people. Our Co-Founders Bob and Leila Macauley grew the organization from a modest nonprofit in New Canaan, CT into one of the world’s leading nonprofit organizations for donated medicine and medical supplies, delivering health programs valued at over $1 billion annually. Over the years, we have touched lives in 164 countries, provided $23 billion in aid and supported 4,000 partners globally. Bob and Leila’s legacy is more than just a story of philanthropy; it is a testament to the power of compassion and the impact of taking bold actions. This week is our 45th anniversary! And we’re looking back at some of our proudest moments, providing quality health care, medicines and medical supplies to those most in need. Today we’re jumping back to 2013 when Typhoon Haiyan struck the Philippines. The storm affected an estimated 16 million people, displaced some 4 million and damaged or destroyed as many as 2,000 health centers, hospitals and clinics. Within 72 hours, Americares Emergency Response Team was on the ground. With a commitment of $21 million in medical and humanitarian aid, we worked with our partners in the hardest hit areas to provide medicines and emergency funding to restore dozens of healthcare facilities. Committed to strengthening health care for people in need, #Americares established an in-country office, warehouse and team to guide the recovery process and build longer term, sustainable community health programs. This spring, we celebrated our office’s 10 year anniversary. Learn more about our history and see how you can help those in need: https://lnkd.in/eDgQ8c29

Over 300,000 residents have been affected by Caregato dam breach in #Colombia this past year. Because of the intense flooding, 49% of the population lacks access to safe drinking water. Americares deployed a team from our Colombia office to the disaster area. The team has been conducting assessments in 22 communities to evaluate the needs of the health infrastructure in the affected zones, delivering hygiene kits to support the displaced population, and establish how #Americares can best provide assistance. We have created 6 water distribution points providing clean drinking water to more than 1,200 people daily and are continuing to distribute hygiene and WASH kits. Quality health care is important for any community. In Eswatini, a country in southern Africa, local health organizations have struggled to procure essential medicines for residents experiencing every day ailments. This challenge impacts the health and well-being of countless individuals. With support from our gracious donors, #Americares and our local partner have been able to make a significant difference by providing lifesaving drugs that have increased their reach from 300,000 people to an incredible 1.2 million, almost the entire population.
