“Ames has grown bigger and added new faces, but it’s still a family business that makes everyone feel like they are part of the family.”—Russell Cornelison In his 35 years with Ames Construction, Russell Cornelison has worked on numerous high-profile projects, including I-CORE, Legacy Highway, and Highway 189 Provo Canyon. His favorite jobs involved operating a dozer for golf course developments in Utah in the early to mid-2000s. “On highway jobs, everything is straight or nice curves. You get onto golf courses, and they want to see rolling hills and slopes,” he explains. “It was challenging to have someone tell you what to build based on what they were visualizing.” Today, Russell is part of a team supporting a long-time mining client. “Ames has taken good care of me, and I love what I do. I enjoy running the dozer and putting my heart into it.” Learn more about how Ames Construction is #PoweredByPeople: https://lnkd.in/eC5YErB Ames Construction is an Equal Opportunity Employer. . . . #AmesConstruction #heavycivil #industrial #contractor #construction #career #job #people #team #constructionindustry

Ames Construction crews are making progress on the new Don Welge Memorial Bridge over the Mississippi River between Perryville, Missouri, and Chester, Illinois. One crew is ascending 170 feet in the air to finalize the first land pylon while another crew is descending 50 feet below the top of river to bring the pylon to its final height of 20 stories above the river. The Ames Team of Ames Construction and lead engineer Parsons Transportation Group is delivering the new bridge via a design-build contract. The three-tower, 2,900-foot-long, cable-stayed bridge is being constructed upstream from the existing 80-year-old Chester Bridge. The new structure will be twice as wide as the existing bridge, with two 12-foot-wide lanes and two 10-foot-wide shoulders. The bridge is named in honor of former Chester resident and longtime bridge advocate Don Welge. Summer 2024 internships are well underway at Ames Construction, and the interns are getting an insider’s look at diverse aspects of the heavy civil and industrial construction industry. For their first site visit, Ames interns in Southern California spent a day at the UPRR Inland Empire Intermodal Terminal (IEIT) Colton project. The West Colton Facility is one of Union Pacific’s largest yards in the United States. Union Pacific’s Senior Director of Locomotive took time from his busy schedule to provide the interns with some great insight on today’s locomotives and lead a tour of the facility’s locomotive repair shop. Thank you UPRR for this valuable experience! For this intermodal project, Ames is performing grading and drainage, subballast production and placement, and installing air and signal infrastructure to support Union Pacific Railroad’s new track and signal construction. The project includes buildings and structures including a new driver help center, roadability canopy and storage buildings, a new guard house, and several retaining walls. Ames crews are performing utility relocations and constructing new industrial wastewater pipeline infrastructure, major on-site drainage retention pre-cast structures, high-mast site lighting and electrical distribution, paved and unpaved access roads, and laydown areas. Life in Tonto Basin, Arizona, just got a lot easier—and safer. Residents, transportation officials, and politicians celebrated the opening of the new Tonto Creek Bridge with a ribbon cutting in late June. Built in 21 months by Ames Construction, the 1,980-foot-long bridge connects two sides of a community that were previously cut off from each other whenever Tonto Creek flooded. During floods, the creek’s dirt crossings would become dangerous, and alternative crossings required driving hours out of the way. Tragically, eight people died trying to cross the swollen creek on foot or in vehicles in the last 25 years, including three children in 2019. At the ribbon cutting, Ames Construction was honored to be recognized for its work by officials from the Federal Highway Administration and Gila County and the director of the Arizona Department of Transportation. Happy 60th anniversary to the Salt Lake Chapter of the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC)! Ames Construction is a proud sponsor of the Salt Lake Chapter, and we wouldn’t miss a chance to mark this milestone. Ames Field Engineers Arika Morris and Bethany Power, Project Engineer Wednesday Rehm, Regional Environmental Manager Olivia Cramm, and Regional HR Manager Andy Anderson celebrated the anniversary at the chapter’s gala in June. In 1964, NAWIC chartered Chapter #90 in Salt Lake City. For 60 years, the women in NAWIC Salt Lake have worked to build a community and provide networking, education, and support to amplify the success of women in construction in Utah. From California to Utah to Colorado to Arizona to … Minnesota! Ames Construction’s Driver Safety Training initiative is making its way across with U.S., and the most recent stop was our Midwest Maintenance Facility in Rosemount, Minnesota. The annual training gave Ames DOT drivers in Minnesota a chance to connect in person, learn from each other, and provide feedback on how we can get even better. Ames takes pride in our professional drivers, and we value their voice. We’d also like to send a big thank you out to the Minnesota State Patrol for sending officers to join in and generously answer questions.
