With heavy hearts, we share the news of Mel Lessing's passing—a beacon of guidance and a cherished comrade within the Mil Med Journal community and AMSUS for over three decades. Mel was more than just a former editor; he was a steadfast friend and mentor whose dedication to our mission was boundless. His intellectual contributions were profound, shaping the journal into what it is today, while his spirit was an irreplaceable force that brought light and warmth to our collaborative endeavors. We were graced by his kindness, his cooperative nature, and his unwavering support—qualities that left an indelible mark on all of us both personally and professionally. In reflecting upon Mel's extraordinary life, we find solace in cherishing each conversation that transcended work, revealing the depth of his integrity and compassion. His fervor for military medicine was matched only by his concern for colleagues and friends alike. As we grieve this profound loss together, let us also take comfort in knowing that Mel’s legacy will endure within each page of the Mil Med Journal he lovingly helped craft, as well as through our fond memories. We extend our deepest sympathies to Mel’s family during this sorrowful time.
