America Makes and National Center for Defense Manufacturing & Machining (NCDMM) have announced the winners of the $6 million PADAM project, funded by the Air Force Research Laboratory. “Backlogs are coming down, and most job shops are no longer working overtime, but they’re still dependent on the core customer base they support," says Jack Burley, chairman of AMT’s Cutting Tool Product Group. Shipments of cutting tools, were $214.4 million in May 2024. Orders decreased 0.1% from April 2024 but grew by 1.8% over May 2023. Year-to-date shipments totaled $1.06 billion. April showers seem to have brough May flowers when it comes to USMTO! Orders of manufacturing technology, totaled $386.7 million in May 2024. They were up nearly 22% from April 2024 and up 6.5% over May 2023. This is the first month in 2024 where the value of orders placed exceeded those of the same month the previous year. Through the first five months of 2024, orders have totaled $1.8 billion. Read the full report here:
