Meet AHEF Student Board Member Luca La Hoz Calassara, who will be a senior at Anoka this year. Luca chose to serve on the board to be a voice representing student views. He loves the passion the board members have in their desire to help as many students as possible. His favorite AHEF grant is the chess set, "because it supports not only the development of students brains but also the connections between friends." Thank you for being such an important part of AHEF, Luca!

Cultivating equitable and innovative experiences for Anoka-Hennepin students in partnership with compassionate people.
About us
AHEF cultivates equitable and innovative experiences for Anoka-Hennepin students in partnership with compassionate people who have generous hearts. AHEF donors fund grants that put technology in the hands of students, afford students the chance to participate in after school activities, provide diverse materials so students see themselves in their classroom materials and resources, to name just a few. Area businesses, civic organizations, parents, neighbors, alumni, students, teachers and other district staff and retired staff all donate to AHEF to enrich student experiences and success. AHEF was formally established as a 501c3 nonprofit in 1991 and aims to fill the gap between where public funds end but student needs continue.

Our donors provide students with hands-on opportunities to explore career paths! This AHEF grant is providing equipment like gas burners, chef coats, whisks and more to launch ProStart competitive cooking teams in our high schools this year. Students will get to compete in culinary arts and management, learning real life skills, opening new career pathways, and networking with professionals in the industry. Students will compete throughout the year culminating in state and national competitions while developing and honing these professional skills. What can our AHEF grants fund for you and your students? We are lifting the $500 maximum this year, so think broadly this year: grade level-wide, building-wide, across multiple buildings — anything to cultivate equity and innovation in students! Questions? Email [email protected].

AHEF grants don't need to fund high-tech solutions! This grant supported struggling readers with tools that helped them decode words collaboratively. The impact was substantial! In September, only 39% of students in Reading Strategies met the decoding benchmark. In May, 79% of our students met or surpassed the benchmark. Grant applications are open and If you want to know if your grant is a good fit, contact Executive Director Tess (Manley) DeGeest at 763-506-1107 or via email at [email protected].

We are truly fortunate to have Julie Klund-Schubert as an AHEF Board Member! Julie is a retired Anoka-Hennepin School District Middle School Assistant Principal and was looking for a way to continue to support students and staff. She enjoys collaborating with other board members and is excited by grants whose focus is getting accessible books into the hands of students. Thank you Julie for always being so generous with your time, your expertise, and your enthusiasm!
