Artomatic DC

Proud to be a small part of Artomatic DC 2024. The Artomatic model of taking over buildings at the end of their built life cycle, offering art in a free and public gathering space is a powerful way to build community. City communities become disconnected when historical spaces offering accessible gathering environments shutter while the larger chains remain. WASTE LAND is a collection of upcycled textile pieces that collectively weigh 80 lbs. Why 80 lbs? That is the average weight of clothing U.S. based consumers throw away each year. Textile waste generation does not occur equally. People with higher incomes generate on average 76% more clothing waste than people with lower incomes (1) and in the DMV we waste 2-4 lbs more per person per year on average. It is my hope that WASTELAND prompts contemplation of consumption habits and environmental, social, and economic impacts of fashion waste. Professionally, she produces and directs videos for corporate and nonprofit clients. When she’s not doing that, she’s creating magical chaos with pen and pixels or making a racket with her collection of oddball stringed instruments, including a two-string bass, three-string cigar box guitar, and a lap steel.
