We’re honored to have such dedicated leadership, like Keith Hamasaki, advancing our mission! As we continue to celebrate the achievements and contributions of Asian and Indigenous communities, the support and vision of our Board of Governors are invaluable. Thanks to House of AN (Crustacean Beverly Hills CA) and Charlie and Ling Zhang, our Board of Governors Dinner was the perfect start to the season. We’re thrilled about the upcoming 2024 Induction Ceremony and the exciting launch of our new capital campaign! Together, we’re making strides toward a future of cultural collaboration and excellence! 🚀 #AsianHallOfFame #CulturalExcellence #Leadership #Collaboration

Happy Labor Day! Asian immigrants and Asian Americans have a long history of labor resistance in the United States, 𝘺𝘦𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘳𝘪𝘣𝘶𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘧𝘳𝘦𝘲𝘶𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘭𝘺 𝘰𝘮𝘪𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘵𝘦𝘹𝘵𝘣𝘰𝘰𝘬𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘮𝘦𝘥𝘪𝘢. Here are some notable moments in Asian American labor resistance history: • 𝟭𝟴𝟲𝟳 𝗥𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗱 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗸𝗲: Thousands of Chinese railroad workers across the Sierra staged a strike to demand equal pay to white laborers, better working conditions, and shorter workdays. • 𝟭𝟵𝟬𝟯 𝗝𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗲𝘀𝗲-𝗠𝗲𝘅𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗟𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: 1,200 Japanese and Mexican farm workers formed the first multiracial labor union and led Southern California’s first successful agricultural strike. Although the American Federation of Labor (AFL) recognized the union, 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘳𝘦𝘧𝘶𝘴𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘢𝘤𝘤𝘦𝘱𝘵 𝘊𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘦 𝘰𝘳 𝘑𝘢𝘱𝘢𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘦 𝘮𝘦𝘮𝘣𝘦𝘳𝘴. In response, the union's Mexican American members returned the unsigned charter, standing in solidarity with their Japanese American colleagues. • 𝟭𝟵𝟲𝟱 𝗗𝗲𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗼 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗸𝗲: #Filipino farmworkers led by Larry Itliong and Philip Veracruz organized a grape workers’ strike in 1965. They joined #CesarChavez and #DoloresHuerta to form the United Farm Workers. • 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗮𝗺𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝟭𝟵𝟴𝟮 #Chinatown 𝗚𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗸𝗲: 20,000 Chinese immigrant women demanded benefits, fair wages, and better working conditions in New York City. This strike is still known as one of the largest protests in Chinatown’s history. -- While four states have passed laws that require teaching Asian American history in schools, we still have a long way to go. 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝗔𝗣𝗜 𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗺 𝗶𝘀 𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀!
