On May 14, over 130 Monterey County elementary school students attended Healthy Youth Field Day at Cardinale Stadium, home of Monterey Bay Football Club. This event, presented by Aspire Health and Montage Health Foundation, celebrates both organizations’ commitment to promoting healthy lifestyle habits and reducing the risk of type 2 diabetes and prediabetes. Students were able to learn essential healthy habits through fun activities like soccer drills with MBFC players, an art project with Montage Health Foundation, a team-building relay with Kids Eat Right, and a movement challenge with Aspire Health’s Don’t Feed the Diabetes Beast. We’re grateful to be able to encourage healthy lifestyles for students across the county!

When medical needs arise that can’t wait, choosing the right care venue can lead to better health outcomes. With options like primary care, 24/7 eVisits, urgent care, and the emergency department, choosing the best path to care is a matter of understanding the purposes and availability of the different care options. Dr. Mark Carvalho, CEO of Montage Medical Group and President of MoGo Urgent Care, shares his recommendations on how to determine which option might be right for you. Aspire Health , in close collaboration with Blue Zones Project - Monterey County, launched the Double Up Food Bucks (DUFB) program in Monterey County. This initiative is funded through California Nutrition Incentive Program (CNIP) at the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA). CNIP encourages the purchase and consumption of healthy, California–grown fresh fruits and vegetables and provides monetary incentives for CalFresh customers. Over $1 million has been awarded to support the program in Monterey County. Double Up Food Bucks aims to provide a much-needed boost to low-income families, local growers, and independent grocery stores by offering a 50 percent discount on California-grown produce for CalFresh shoppers. Through the DUFB program, CalFresh recipients can now enjoy significant savings on California-grown fruits and vegetables. When using their CalFresh/EBT card at two La Princesa Markets in Salinas (614 Williams Road and 516 East Alisal Street), customers will receive a 50 percent discount on their purchases of California-grown produce, up to $15 per day. For instance, if an eligible shopper spends $30 on California fruits and vegetables, they will only pay $15, effectively doubling the value of their benefit. This innovative program serves a triple win by: 1. Supporting low-income families 2. Boosting local independently-owned grocery stores 3. Supporting local growers Learn more at www.doubleupca.org. #AspireHealth #communityhealth #populationhealth #pophealth #california #montereycounty #foodandnutrition FOOD & AGRICULTURE, CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF
