We’re funding our first Defense Production Act Title III agreements for innovative manufacturing of key starting materials (KSM) and active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) used in drugs on FDA’s essential medicines list that are periodically in shortage and could be needed during national emergencies. Under the agreement awards approximately $14 million the API Innovation Center, a non-profit coalition in St. Louis, Missouri, to modernize manufacturing among their members in order to use continuous flow manufacturing for KSMs and APIs used in three essential medicines. The API Innovation Center members involved are MilliporeSigma, University of Missouri – St. Louis, Apertus Pharmaceuticals, and Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals. The agreement was awarded by BARDA’s BioMaP-Consortium with funding from ASPR’s Center for Industrial Base Management and Supply Chain. https://lnkd.in/eHVZ2f-d

Hazard vulnerability analysis and risk assessment are systematic approaches to identifying threats that are most likely to have an impact on a health care facility and the surrounding community. ASPR TRACIE’s Topic Collection on Hazard Vulnerability/Risk Assessment highlights multiple tools and resources available to help health care organizations and public health departments prioritize their planning efforts based on these hazards, improving patient and healthcare worker safety and overall community resilience. Update or create your assessment today and incorporate results into your emergency preparedness plans. #NationalPreparednessMonth https://lnkd.in/eSFgnQkE

ASPR is partnering with the #RyanWhite HIV/AIDS Program and HRSA-supported health centers to increase access to JYNNEOS vaccine. These health centers will provide free doses of #mpox vaccine from the Strategic National Stockpile to people who are at high risk of mpox disease but do not have health care coverage. The JYNNEOS vaccine is licensed for prevention of all mpox clades and can be administered as a pre- or post-exposure prophylaxis. Currently, mpox is circulating at low levels across the U.S., but it can cause serious disease in immunocompromised individuals or those with other underlying medical conditions. Since May 2022, the SNS has deployed over one million vials of JYNNEOS vaccine to help prevent the spread of mpox and protect at-risk individuals from severe illness, hospitalization, and death.

As Hurricane Francine gains strength and approaches Louisiana, ASPR is deploying a healthcare system assessment team and other disaster response personnel to Louisiana in advance of the storm. In addition, we are prepositioning medical supplies and equipment. By deploying before Hurricane Francine makes landfall, we are better prepared to partner with our state public health partners to address public health and medical needs that result from the storm.

Health care providers: Suicide was the second-leading cause of death for people aged 10–14 and 25–34 years and suicide rates often increase after disasters. Make sure your patients know they can reach a caring, trained counselor by texting or calling 988. https://lnkd.in/eAdFabfG

Did you know that as an essential part of the nation's defense against terrorism, ASPR’s Strategic National Stockpile (SNS) provides support for national special security events, including the Democratic National Convention? Recently, SNS deployed caches of critical medical supplies and equipment for pre-positioning in Chicago to ensure the safety and security of those attending the #DNC2024. In close coordination with the Chicago Department of Public Health, SNS transported 116 containers of broad-spectrum medical supplies to support the provision of care in the event of an attack or disaster in the area. #StockpileInfo #DNC2024

#NationalPreparednessMonth is a great time for you to start a conversation on disaster preparedness and strengthen the partnerships needed to improve disaster health outcomes. This month, we will highlight resources to help you prepare for future disasters and emergencies, ideas to help you build partnerships before disaster strikes, and stories to inspire you to take action. We’ll also highlight some of the work we are doing to ensure the nation is better prepared for whatever lies ahead. #NPM2024

This week, Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response Dawn O’Connell, joined Senator Tim Kaine and Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan for a tour of Phlow Corp., a company that is establishing continuous manufacturing capabilities to produce active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) with support from ASPR. Phlow’s continuous manufacturing process uses technologies that can boost product quality and lower environmental impacts. ASPR’s Office of Industrial Base Management and Supply Chain invested more than $325 million to develop domestic production capabilities for active pharmaceutical ingredients. Phlow is a part of ASPR’s portfolio that is helping expand the country’s domestic manufacturing capabilities, reducing our nation’s reliance on imports, and enabling us to foster innovation and job creation here at home.
