It's so incredibly important for pro and college athletes to own their personal brands and intellectual property like logos, product designs, etc. This article compares the differences between athlete's owning their IP and entering into endorsements where a sponsor owns the IP.

Athlete Studio had the incredible privilege of partnering with Amon-Ra St. Brown, the #DetroitLions wide receiver known as the "Sun God." Today, we're excited to share the origin story of his nickname and how Athlete Studio’s collaboration with Amon-Ra has brought it to life.
Amon-Ra's unique name is rooted in Egyptian mythology. He’s named after Amun, the supreme deity who merged with Ra, the ancient sun god, to become Amun-Ra. In an interview with Sports Illustrated back in 2017, John Brown, Amon-Ra’s father, provided context on why he named his son this way. “Brown was active in the early 1990s in what he describes as “an underground black consciousness movement” when he learned of the power of traditional African names.”
As the "Sun God" in the #NFL, Amon-Ra has caught the #football world’s attention with his name and play on the field. Athlete Studio, in #partnership with Amon-Ra, recognized the potential to transform his unique name into a #brand that would resonate with fans.
Athlete Studio’s #collaboration with Amon-Ra St. Brown led to the creation of a series of #designs that revolved around his nickname, “Sun God.” With the “Sun God” collection, Athlete Studio and Amon-Ra paid homage to his roots while also celebrating his success as one of the league’s top receivers.
In the “Sun God” design, we wanted to capture Amon-Ra’s likeness as well as the meaning of his name, which translates to the Sun God of Egypt, the supreme god of the universe in whom Amen and Ra were merged. The colors in his portrait reference the golds used by ancient Egyptians in their depictions of royalty, and the glowing eyes signify otherworldliness. Stylistically, we used bold colors and solid shapes so the graphic could stand strongly on its own while incorporating organic elements in the illustration to capture a sense of spirituality.
At Athlete Studio, our work alongside #AmonRaStBrown continually inspires us by his commitment to excellence. The #SunGod collection is a testament to Amon-Ra’s body of work as he’s gone from a 4th round pick to one of the best-skill position players in the league. We're excited to see Amon-Ra shine brightly on and off the football field!

Athlete Studio recently partnered with Kenny Moore II of the Colts to spread the inspiring story of "Mighty" Mason. "Mighty" Mason Garvey was diagnosed at age 7 with Embryonal Rhabdomyosarcoma (ERMS) which is a malignant soft tissue tumor that's formed from embryonic skeletal muscle tissue. Mason bravely battled the cancer for nearly two years and gained his angel wings on June 25, 2020.
As Mason's "big brother", Kenny Moore II was by his side throughout the entire journey and has continued to help raise #awareness of Mason's story. This year, Kenny Moore II revamped his entire site to solely focus on Mason, and all proceeds from the Mighty Mason 2023 Collection will go to support pediatric cancer research. The #design this year is a throwback to the first shirt Kenny designed and highlights the moment where Kenny and Mason ran out of the tunnel together before a Colts game on Mason's 9th birthday.
The need for continued research and advancement in treatment for pediatric cancer became clear to Mason's family during his battle which spurred them to start the Mighty Mason Foundation. The foundation was created in honor of Mason and their mission is to provide financial support for #pediatriccancer research and #palliative care, while also supporting children, families, and medical professionals battling against pediatric cancer.
