Advancements in humanoid robotics have sharply increased over the past several years and show no signs of slowing down. Repetitive, dirty, or dangerous tasks will eventually be performed by robots, keeping the humans at the controls and away from the action. If you are part of the humanoid robotics industry, IEEE Robotics and Automation Society needs your help to help make sure that trajectory is a smooth and safe one which will only benefit humans by establishing standards for humanoid technology. ATI Industrial Automation and Novanta Inc. would like to thank IEEE Robotics and Automation Society for taking the initiative with this massive undertaking. Read more about the study here: https://lnkd.in/e95ZHbPg
Creating the Humanoid Robotics Standards Roadmap: Your Help Needed The IEEE Robotics and Automation Society (RAS) has initiated a call to action for experts to join their Humanoid Standards Study Group. The aim is to create a roadmap for developing and updating standards for humanoid robots. This project requires: 1. Analyzing current standards to identify relevant and irrelevant aspects for humanoid robots. 2. Identifying gaps in existing standards. 3. Determining roadblocks to addressing these gaps. 4. Creating a roadmap for standards organizations to develop humanoid robot standards. Volunteers with expertise in humanoid technology, applications, and standards are needed. This includes industry users like car manufacturing and warehouse logistics. The group is chaired by Aaron Prather, Director of Robotics & Autonomous Systems Program at ASTM International, and must complete the roadmap within a year. The roadmap will guide the standard organizations, like ASTM, ISO - International Organization for Standardization, ANSI - American National Standards Institute, and the A3 - Association for Advancing Automation, and prevent a duplication of efforts. “In the past, standards development organizations would wait until after robots hit the market,” said Prather. “However, humanoid robots are being developed so quickly, we really don’t have time to wait until the proverbial robot feet hit the floor.” ATI Industrial Automation and Celera Motion, A Novanta Company support the development of humanoid robots and appreciate RAS’s efforts in forming this group. Join us in supporting this initiative and contributing to the future of humanoid robotics standards.
