Each comp will also include a famous sound effect that producers have to incorporate, from iconic games like Rocket League, #Fortnite, Street Fighter, and Call of Duty. And we have some legendary judges to pick winners: Rance Dopson (Grammy winner and CEO of 1500 or Nothin’) Jesse Carmichael of Maroon 5, BT, Ken Lewis (Grammy winning mixer for Taylor Swift, Bieber and Drake), Flosstradamus, Oak Felder (producer for Dua Lipa and Demi Lovato), Joanne Higginbottom (composer on John Wick and Deadpool), Michael Maas (trailer composer for Dune, Tenant, Jurassic World), Simon Heeger (cofounder 2WEI), Leo Wyatt (A&R Leaf at Spitfire Audio), and others. And big thanks to all of our amazing sponsors: Focusrite, Shure Incorporated, Zivix (Jamstik), Universal Audio, Baby Audio Inc., Sonarworks, and Synchro Arts by LANDR. #esports #saudiarabia #riyadh #musicindustry #gaming

You know what’s even more inspiring than generative music? 💡 Friendship, collaboration, and sharing. A few years ago I signed up for a workshop through School of Song, an online program where popular indie musicians teach their songwriting philosophy and techniques. I hadn’t written a song in over a year. My guitar and keys were sitting around gathering dust. Over the course of one month with School of Song, I wrote a dense five song EP. How / why did it happen? ✅ Excellent teacher (Dave Longstreth of Dirty Projectors) and event facilitator ✅ Accessible live online classes in a video format, with live chat for students to engage ✅ Discord server where we discussed the lessons and made friends ✅ Weekly songwriting assignments with an online portal to upload our creations ✅ A comment section for each song where we shared supportive and thoughtful feedback on each other’s creations As a musician and writer, my most prolific periods are always inspired by connections with other people. GenAI music companies have a habit of placing “inspiration” as their core value prop, but they neglect the most important factor: humans. 💡Community is more than a buzzword to slap on your tech product’s landing page. People need a container to create, share, listen and engage with each other. Last week I spoke with Mirta Gilson at Audiotool about this. Their user base specializes in sound design - over the last decade they’ve built an active and vibrant online community with regular contests. Out of 1 million+ published tracks, over half of them have been remixes/collaborations. They achieved this through a combo of web infrastructure (browser app, site forums) and a “remix” feature that lets users build upon public works from others. The multiplayer ethos can exist without video game engines. When I read that the Australian genAI music startup Splash had shuttered its doors to return to making video games, I had mixed feelings. Granted, I’m in my late thirties and don’t care to spend my free time on Roblox. They probably have a sizable demographic to sell their ai music video game to. But my vision for these generative tools centers on musicians, songwriters and fans. In 2021, my text-to-midi company launched a non-competitive event online called the Cipher Circle. Beatmakers used our app to turn words into music and shared their process on recorded videos: https://lnkd.in/giCCJQRf In an attention economy, it’s the quality of the people on the other end that matters the most. Music tech founders need to prioritize human relationships in their value chain. Without community you can still sell a product, but engaged users will take your company to the moon. P.S. Here’s a photo of the instrumental math rock band I played in during high school and college (2002-2007). We toured and played live relentlessly. We average 20k monthly listeners 15 years later. #ai #aimusic #songwriting #musictech

Last night, I had the pleasure of attending the Audiotool and dublab event in the Hollywood Hills hosted by my good friend Daniel Rowland. The evening was buzzing with passionate individuals from the tech and music space. The creators at this event were making a major statement. The depth and richness of the conversations were truly inspiring. Such events remind me of the incredible synergy between technology and music, and the talented minds driving it.
