On this week’s episode of the Austin Technology Council ‘s podcast - “Austin Tech Connect” I had a special conversation with ChatGPT as the guest host. The experience was nothing short of amazing. And it shocked me how great the AI host did without much prompting. I simply asked it to host the show and to interview me about ATC and Austin. From the moment we started, ChatGPT asked deep questions that really dug into the heart of the Austin Technology Council's mission, goals, and impact on the community. Each question was thoughtfully crafted and built perfectly off my answers, creating a seamless and engaging conversation. ChatGPT not only highlighted the history and future of ATC but also touched on critical topics around the future of the Austin tech ecosystem. The interaction felt natural and fluid, making it a very real interview. Check out “Austin Tech Connect” on Apple, Spotify, etc…. #Podcast #AustinTechConnect #Interview #TechCommunity #ChatGPT #AI ---

The future of our Greater Austin tech scene continues be exciting! There was a great event yesterday- “Demo Day” at Plug and Play Cedar Park. Plug and Play hosted a great event and featured presentatios from several early stage and growing companies. Innovation is alive and well- and that means good things for Texas!! The featured speaker was Thomas Healy for Cedar Park headquartered Hyliion. He is the youngest CEO of an NYSE traded company (and a Carnegie Mellon graduate). Hearing his company’s journey- and how they chose the Austin area as their HQ was a great story! Anytime you see a gathering of tech like this you know the good things are still ahead for our region. If you are not familiar with the work they are doing at Plug and Play in Cedar Park- you should check it out. The local director Ehab Gabr, MBA will happily give you a tour or tell you the details! ATC looks forward to collaborating with Plug and Play for some future events! #austintech #plugandplay #austin

  • From today's newsletter: ATC is dedicated to building the future of our region by addressing the top concerns of the tech community in Austin. Recognizing the need for skill development and staying current, ATC collaborates with other organizations to promote workshops, training sessions, and certifications on emerging technologies.   To help build and maintain professional networks, ATC hosts regular events, happy hours, and conferences such as The C-Suite Summit.    For learning and career advancement, ATC offers network opportunities to help find mentorship, career coaching, and job placement services.   We keep the tech community informed on regulatory and compliance changes and advocate for tech-friendly policies. Locally we support the Austin Chamber and Opportunity Austin's state and city policy efforts, and in Washington DC we are part of the lobbying efforts of TECNA. By focusing on education, community/networking, and advocacy,  ATC supports the thriving tech ecosystem in Austin, helping professionals and businesses succeed.   THE BRIDGE BUILDER By Will Allen Dromgoole   An old man going a lone highway, Came, at the evening cold and gray, To a chasm, vast and deep and wide, Through which was flowing a sullen tide. The old man crossed in the twilight dim, The sullen stream had no fears for him; But he turned when safe on the other side, And built a bridge to span the tide.   "Old man," said a fellow pilgrim near, "You are wasting strength with building here; Your journey will end with the ending day, You never again will pass this way; You’ve crossed the chasm, deep and wide, Why build you this bridge at eventide?"   The builder lifted his old gray head: "Good friend, in the path I have come," he said, "There followeth after me today, A youth, whose feet must pass this way. This chasm that has been as naught to me, To that fair-haired youth may a pitfall be; They, too, must cross in the twilight dim— Good friend, I am building this bridge for them."   The Austin Technology Council is here to help facilitate building bridges to the future, much like the thoughtful builder in Will Allen Dromgoole's poem "The Bridge Builder."   By offering education, networking, and advocacy, ATC helps today's tech professionals navigate the ever-changing landscape of technology. Just as the builder constructs a bridge for the youth who will follow, ATC fosters community, collaboration and conversations, ensuring that the next generation of innovators can cross their own chasms with ease.   The Austin Technology Council is asking all of you to help pave the way for a more inclusive and innovative future. If our community has a holistic approach, which includes promoting entrepreneurship, career opportunities, mental health and advocating for tech-friendly policies, we ensure that the bridges we build today will support the journeys of countless future tech leaders in Austin. #AustinTech #Austin #community

    • The Austin Technology Council is committed to building bridges to the future. Our efforts to celebrate the past, be present in the now, and looking to the future is why we exist. We are a grassroots organization that is trying to build community and support all who uplift our tech scene.
  • Register now for next week’s ATC July Roundtable Breakfast on Wednesday, July 17th. Often people choose to not “network” during the summer - assuming nobody is around….. but that is the best time to show up at local events!!! Come and engage with people from our community and get inspired by leadership expert Scott Carley. Who on your team should be focused on upping their leadership game? How can they go from the middle to leadership? The main thing we hear after these Roundtable Breakfasts is from those who don’t attend. Regularly we get messages about “I heard your event was great - and I should have been there!” The remedy to that FOMO is to register now at the ATC website. We look forward to seeing you and your team at the breakfast next Wednesday. #austin #Technology #leadership #austintexas

  • Austin's vibrant culture and booming tech industry have brought both opportunities and challenges. The rapid influx of tech companies and people over the last 20+ years has boosted the economy but also led to gentrification, rising housing prices, and the displacement of long-time residents. Small local businesses, integral to Austin's character, struggle to compete in this new economic climate, threatening the city's unique charm.   To navigate these changes, we need civic-minded leaders from business, government, and academia to unite. Historically, Austin's success has stemmed from collaborations among visionary leaders. We need this spirit of collaboration now more than ever to ensure that Austin’s growth benefits all its residents.   Thirty years ago Austin was one of the first cities in the world to actively rebrand and reinvent itself as a technology hub and an innovation center. Now most cities have tech initiatives connected to their economic development. Our tech ecosystem cannot mistakenly think we are beyond needing to come together and work toward the future. Austin has not reached the top of its climb. We still have a lot of work to do, and this is why we need to identify our next community building leaders.    As I engage with dozens of other technology council's around the country (I am very active with the Technology Council's of North America - there are 100 independent tech councils in North America, and 66 belong to TECNA), I am learning how other cities are working to position their tech ecosystems for the new era. It is interesting to see the unity between government, colleges, and business that is taking place in other regions.   As a leading tech hub, the Austin tech community must be engaged and collaborating beyond just the confines of our city. We are no longer a small town trying to become established.  We are Austin. We need to change up what we are doing to grow our ecosystem to be the most unique innovate city in the world.   I believe that when we need them, leaders show up. As we think about the future of our community, Austin is ready for enhanced conversations and for the next generation's visionaries to emerge. The Austin Technology Council is open to ideas from all who want to contribute.    Leadership from our tech community can sustain Austin’s diverse economy by investing in projects and forming partnerships with local civic and business groups. More mentorship, diversity, and dialogue can foster the inclusive and resilient economy we all desire.   Austin's tech scene is at a pivotal moment. We need leaders from all sectors to come together, share their ideas, and take action. By doing so, we can navigate growth challenges while preserving Austin's unique culture and ensuring a prosperous future for all.   You and your company can impact the future of our tech ecosystem. Join and support ATC and / or other local organizations in the effort to shape Austin's tomorrow into a thriving, inclusive community.

  • Now is a great time to join ATC. As we look to the next phases of Austin, we need civic minded tech leaders to lend their voices to the conversations. By joining us, you're not just networking; you're contributing to a thriving ecosystem that empowers businesses and transforms lives – you are leading by example that the connections of the people in Austin are the secret weapon that makes out region a leading innovation center. I recently had an inspiring conversation with the CEO of a local company about Austin, tech, community, and the future. One of the best parts of my role with ATC is hearing diverse ideas from civic-minded entrepreneurs. As our community looks to the future, there are many diverse thoughts about what it means to be a “tech hub” and “innovation center” in 2024 and beyond. I am eager to hear your ideas. If you are part of the Austin tech scene, I need your assistance. I need to know what your thoughts are about our tech community - what is working and what areas we should focus on in the next few years. I am just one person trying to make a dent……and I cannot have any impact with ATC without grassroots guidance. All thought leadership is welcome. I need visionary leaders to share their points of view, and I welcome it. I believe in the power of a community that has connections and broad support for a better future. Enthusiasm from people who want to help is key to everyone-profit. The only way I can help ATC is if people will have conversations and be willing to be “honest brokers” when looking at the whole of our ecosystem. Your insights are crucial. ATC wants to hear from all tech leaders (not just members). We are a community group first - and a membership group second. So please reach out if you are part of the tech community!!! #austin #austintech #community

  • As we embark on the second half of the year, the Austin Technology Council (ATC) is more committed than ever to fostering connections that drive our tech community forward. Recenet conversations with tech leaders have underscored a vital insight: smaller and mid-size growth-focused tech companies in Austin are eager for more opportunities to network and engage as a community. These conversations highlighted a critical need for stronger collaborations across our community—particularly with UT Austin’s Engineering, Business, and Medical schools....and with the largest tech companies with office in our region. We recognize that achieving the next level of innovation and growth requires the collective efforts of business leaders, academia, and government. Austin’s strength has always come from being a tightly engaged community. Now, ATC is seeking civic-minded leaders to join us in shaping the future of our tech ecosystem. Together, we can achieve remarkable progress in the coming months by fostering meaningful discussions and connections. Join us in our mission to bolster our vibrant and collaborative tech community. Let’s work together to make the second half of the year transformative for Austin’s tech industry. #AustinTech #Networking #Innovation #CommunityBuilding #Leadership
