  • As we celebrate International Paramedic’s Day, we pay tribute to those paramedics and ambulance officers who came before us for paving the way to professional recognition, for challenging the status quo, for saying “we can do better”, and for not accepting being just an “ambulance driver”. These trailblazers have helped bring an incredible change to the industry and dramatically improved patient care. Today we also salute the new generation of paramedics who continue to push for improvements and advancement of the profession and are ready to take us to the next level of being an integral part of the healthcare system. Paramedic Practitioners and Community Paramedics are ready to provide advanced primary care delivery to a wide and diverse community and be an active part of improving the health and wellbeing of all. Thank you all who are taking up this challenge. To our politicians, legislative and policy makers - please hurry up and make the necessary changes to allow Paramedic Practitioners to work at their full capacity by providing advanced care and independent prescribing. We need the same status as Nurse Practitioners. It’s not that difficult! Paramedic Practitioners already practice extensively in many other countries like the UK, USA, and Canada. So, on International Paramedic’s Day, thank you to our past, present, and future paramedics for all that you do to keep the community healthy.
