California’s Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) has launched a Vehicle Safety Systems Inspection (VSSI) program for revived salvage vehicles, or automobiles that have sustained significant damage from a collision, flooding, theft, or other incident and are declared a total loss by the insurance carrier. In California, when these vehicles are repaired (or revived), they must be registered with the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) and issued a salvage title in order to be driven again. The new program expands the inspection required to register a revived salvage vehicle to include such vehicle safety systems as steering and suspension, tires and wheels, passenger compartment, and body structure. The inspection protocol also incorporates on-board diagnostics, a road test and vehicle safety recall information. Inspections are performed by licensed technicians at licensed VSSI stations. #aftermarket #autoparts #autocare #carcare #california
